Based in Kansas City, Kan., Jet Midwest has been around for 13 years. The company plans to occupy two buildings in the maintenance facility as of March 1.

The company will operate an engine repair shop at the base initially, but they expect to get the federal certification needed to also provide heavy maintenance work.

Jet Midwest expects to employ 30 to 70 people at the shop in the first year, but they have hopes of having 300 to 600 employees at the base within five years.

Jet Midwest did not seek any tax breaks from the city for the move. The company is exploring incentive packages from the state related to job training. -------- So there's life in the Ol' girl yet!!! :up:

That's good to hear!! At least they'll recover some of the jobs that were lost in that area. They'll give the economy little boost!

<_< And at the rate the TWU is going with the contract talks, their compensation package should be near, or better than that of AA's! :shock: :rolleyes:
 
So does anyone know how many AMT's in MCIE and STL took the Enhanced Stand Instead offer the company gave out ??
I believe that the window of opportunity was January 11th to January 29th .
 
Close to 400 total of all eligible is what signed up, but that doesn't mean they have to leave. Mid July is when they choose to stay or leave.
Can't speak for anyone else, but THIS AMT took his walking papers (and the money that comes with them) Friday, and Monday I start a new job with:
1) More Pay (more to start than I was making at AA)
2) Paid Lunch
3) 8 to 4 Monday - Friday (Overtime Available As Needed)
4) My Own (Company Paid For) Van
5) Tools Provided By The Company
6) Insurance Paid By The Company, and
7) 5 Minute Commute From Home.

Best of all, NO CHICKEN-(text excised) TWU. After my 4 month probation, I'll join a GOOD UNION.

My days in commercial aviation are over. Life at MCI or no life at MCI, it's all in the past.

It was fitting I went down to MKC on Saturday to see an L-1011 finish it's last flight; from ROW to MKC so it can be displayed by the folks at the Airline History Museum.

Best of luck. The sun still rises and sets in a life after the airlines, but it takes a little getting used to not having as much stress come payday...

Yeah right.

From the local NBC affiliate KSHB in Kansas City, paragraph 4:

"The commercial aircraft supplier could provide jobs that would range from $20-$25 an hour. This is significantly less than many overhaul base mechanics were earning under American Airlines."

And that is just hourly wage, how about insurance? I also doubt that they have a defined benefit pension plan with retiree medical insurance. The $20-$25 an hour is about standard for a domestic shop.

<_< ----- Oh don't glot too much aa! Any AMT worth his salt won't make a career of such work. But it'll due for a "interim" position, ----- if needed!!! Like I said, there is more to life than airplanes. Besides, most those left at MCI, are old enough to retire, and those that aren't, will probably bid jobs out in the system, or those like KCKKen will walk away from aviation completely!
 
I'm not gloating; only refuting your illogical statement that Jet Midwest's compensation will be equal to or greater than that of AA. As for the rest of your post, I concur.

Well the starting wage at AA is $14.74 (base), around what it was in 1983. When we have new hires they will be starting at a wage that is actually lower now than it was before they were born. Not too many people can say that, but you had better believe I'll make sure to tell them.

Dont put too much value into your defined pension, if they offer it fine but you should plan as if it wont be there. Remember that MCI transplant made it to retirement and now lives in Paradise, you can bet it isnt his TWA or AA pension that allows him to do it, obviously he made contingency plans and didnt rely on the honestly and integrity of corporate America to get where he has. Anyone who still believes in the loyalty system is a fool, because the other side abandoned it decades ago, get whatever you can while you can, to the young I would say get a pension that portable and definited vs defined because defined pensions are no longer definite. Years ago if the company existed your pension was there but that no longer the case.

Those who do go to the new MCI should go for as much cash as they can and bank what they can.
