Thes were sure happier times. This is when we were proud of the profession and our airline.
Yeh, Bud, ain't that the truth! As you know, I retired early, back in '95. Even back then, I was fearful of the future of USAir, as we struggled to compete against the large Legacy carriers and the upstarts like Southwest. Being caught in the middle was a tough place to be.
My worst fears eventually happened, albeit many years later. Sad .... indeed! As you said, there were happier times. God yes, I was so very proud to say I flew for USAir! And folks were always pleased to tell me their experiences when flying with us! I guess I "got out" at a good time, as those great memories are still alive within.
I do not know why I do it to myself, but every day I come to this Forum, only to leave it in disbelief and disappointment. The information that is posted here is truly shocking, and I mean that sincerely! If all that I read here is true, I am indeed suprised that the airline continues to operate. I have not traveled on USAir(ways) in over 10 years, so I lack first-hand knowledge of the true working conditions. What a shame. You know, in my 28 years of service, I have to say it was unusual to find an unhappy employee. Sure, we had the merger aches and pains as we attempted to grow, but I think everyone was treated fair and square in the long run ... and knew it!
That certainly does not seem the case today tho! I'll reserve comment, as a Retiree I think that is appropriate. But my heart goes out to all the employees that are caught up in what is perhaps the worst situation this (once great) Airline is in. Let us pray the "good times" will return once again!
