The Future Of Express

Is SWA a bad airline to fly on? I've never been on them thats why I'm asking.

I am sure for leisure travelers or SOME business travelers they are fine. For those frequent flyers who don't like open seating or waiting in cattle call lines to board they are not acceptable.

Other than that watch the show Airline and make up your own mind.

I owe no explanations. Without preselected seating they are out of the question for me.

For the record, I HAVE flown Jet Blue, and they have met the reduced expectations.

To each their own...

If you haven't flown Southwest, how do you know you wouldn't like it? Basing your decisions on what to buy based on a TV show is short-sighted.

I used to hate Southwest just as much as PineyBob and Art (actually I had flown them once before, but it was a long, long time ago). I decided to try them, and it's really not that bad. 20 years ago, it was definitely a step down from Delta or AA or anyone like that to Southwest. Today, it's actually a step up in most respects. It is refreshing to fly on an airline where the employees are actually happy to be there. You probably experienced the same on JetBlue.

I also gave JetBlue a try, and they met my expectations. I got a reasonably comfortable coach seat, good snack selection (since copied by Delta), friendly employees, human ticket counter check-in (kiosk available if you want to use it), and in-flight TV. It's the same on Southwest except no TV, and you choose your seat when you board the plane rather than in advance.

If you were willing to "cheat" on US and fly JetBlue, why wouldn't you do the same with Southwest? Especially out of ISP rather than LGA.

JS,

Read up. It has to do with the lines, the cattle call and no advance seat selection. It's just not an option, and that's that. PERIOD.

Fair enough?

Yes, I've read what you wrote. Why can't you just try them once and give us a trip report? You flew JetBlue, so what's the big deal?

I was visiting my folks tonight and as I walked across the lawn I noticed some Doggy-DooDoo do I have to step in it and write about how it felt to make you happy?

Dog doo = Southwest? Whatever. 🙄

I've been in LAX T-1 and I know ALL I need to know to formulte an opinion. So have a Pepsi and relax. I really admire their marketing strategy and operational expertise and I feel the same about Motel 6. However their product is not for me. Both deliver exactly what they promise and for me it's nt what I want. No mystery, that's why they make Fords & Chevy's.

Really? Being in the airport is the same as boarding the plane and flying somewhere? Well, golly gee, I've been wasting a lot of money on airline tickets when I could just visit the airport. Thank you so much for enlightening me, PineyBob.

In fact, you could extend this concept to anything. You could write auto reviews based on newspaper ads, and real estate appraisals using Google. Such a time-saver to not bother sampling a product before declaring it useless.

Show me where in any post that I said SWA was useless!

I said, Have said, Will continue to say that without an assigned seat their product is not for me. Without the ability to earn free tickets overseas their product is not for me. I do NOT need to fly the airline to know that these 2 factors IMMEDIATELY rule ths vendor out of consideration. FOR ME!

This seems to be difficult for you to grasp. Really it's not that tough. It's just like I prefer 2 seat convertable sports cars so I picked an Audi TT Roadster. So I Bought one. Does that mean that a Chysler Sebring is a Piece of Crap? No it means it's not my preferred ride. SIMPLE!!!

So go stand in the SWA cattle call at LAX and break somone elses ballz!

I am well aware that Southwest's FF program does not include any overseas destinations. I didn't suggest you fly no one but Southwest. Just try them ONE TIME so that you can see for yourself that open seating isn't that bad.

The sports car analogy is preposterous, comparing a $100 roundtrip ticket to a $40,000 automobile.

If you aren't going to try Southwest just once, then your opinion of their product isn't really an opinion but just a rant.

JS,

This is really much ado about nothing, so why not move on. Bob and I have been clear--without assigned seats, and in his case without overseas destinations, IT'S NOT GONNA HAPPEN. We appreciate that you like them, but stop trying to spread the KoolAid already-this discussion has been going on for years, and we are not about to try WN.

So please get over it and let's move back to the original topic of this thread.

Thank you

I wonder if PI and PSA will be sold? and if so, what will happen to the cities that are PI and PSA?

Robbed,

I don't know what will happen, but based on Doug's comments about the Dash's we might see status quo if not some growth. There was a rumor that he's shopping some more Dash's but I also heard they are getting rid of -200's while keeping the tired old -100's.

Time for some Q400's folks 🙂

is the DASH-8-400Q bigger than the -300? I have worked the 300, 200 and the 100 and I will admit that I love the DASH-8 all the way. I'd hate to see htem go especially the 200 since they can for themost part take the full 37 pax

This is about as old and tiring as the union stuff on here some people despise so much. 😉

Robbed,

The -200 is a higher gross version of the -100, with, I believe more powerful engines.

The -400 is considerably larger than the -300, and holds up to 70 passengers. It is also much faster than the other Dash's and quieter on the inside, due to new technology (all Q series have this).

The -400Q is used successfully by Horizon on the west coast.
