USA320Pilot comments: I'm sure Delta Air Lines CEO Gerry Grinstein loved opening up his company's hometown newspaper this morning. Grinstein got to read the OpEd column above the day before he sits down with US Airways' senior management team and his unsecured creditors trying to explain why Delta's yet to be identified stand-alone "exit plan" is superior to US Airways' $8 billion offer to acquire the Atlanta-based carrier.

As an astute member of the national news media told me regarding the proposed US Airways - Delta merger, "money talks".

USA320Pilot notes: It is my understanding, the OpEd column author, Satish Jindel, is the founder of SJ Consulting Group, a Pittsburgh-based consultancy that provides strategy, marketing, merger and acquisition support, pricing, labor, operation and technology to transportation and logistics industries. He is frequently quoted in business and trade media and has had key roles in RPS start-up and expansion and advising FedEx on the Caliber/RPS/Viking Freight acquisition.

What makes someone astute? The fact they said "nice flight" to you on their way out the door?

Consolidation lowers costs, boosts service
What an astute and amazingly intellectual observation. I couldn't agree with this more. I think every industry should consolidate down to just one company. That way everything would be available to everyone in abundance, and FREE!
Monopolies Rule!

Do our friends at US Air ever work? Or do you guys just pore over every little shred of "journalism" (and I use that term loosely) which might reassure you that this train wreck might actually happen?

You go on and on about how we are brainwashed, but I think you may have it backwards. Doug Parker seems to know exactly what buttons to push. You guys are getting played big time and if this deal happens, we're all going to suffer together for it while the execs have yet another big payday. The "synergies" come out of labor's hide, and he will use divide and conquer negotiating tactics to keep us all against one another instead of united to defend our interests. He's already doing it to you guys and the Delta proposal is distracting you from your own contract negotiations. The plan is working beautifully. Welcome to the New Delta, as envisioned by your great and fearless leader.

Wow . . . I am in awe of this astute-ness. And from a "member of the national news media," no less. I could never have come up with that one on my own.

What kind of statement is that? WE are not the ones in bankrupcy and WE not looking at being bought by another company. Many of those that post information from other sources do a great service to those of us that dont have access to other sources of info due to our locations or time constraints. Those of us that have been on this board prior to this merger proposal have a great deal of fun learning about the industry and enjoy the intellect and humor of our posting friends. We use this board to ask non rev or union questions. Some of our VFF's give us insight into where we are failing our customers and where we are succeeding. There is an abundance of thought, sharing of ideas and sometimes allowing of us to vent our frustrations(I have many, many times). Peoples lives may change drastically if this merger comes to fruition. Change of hubs, our fa's seniority and bases may close or change, affecting their families. Operations locations may change. The posting of all sources of information may give us a glimpse into our futures. Whey WOULDN't you want to stay informed or at least feel the pulse of what may happen. Delta employees may feel because their CEO says no way, it wont happen. US Airways employees may feel its a done deal. Lets let at all the information from a neutral partys outlook. By the way, Welcome to the Board and post away! Mama

too bad I'm unimpressed by his reasoning... oversimplified to the point of inaccuracy in my opinion.
