The Cookie Passenger

I've had the same passenger on my flights over the past couple of months.

Every time he boards, he discreatly hands the A flight attendant a bag and says "these are for the crew". Inside the bag are individually wrapped treats for the entire crew. Normally I'd think the pax was doing it to get something - but he never asks for anything - the last flight he even brought his own sodas with him.

Has anybody else had this guy on their flights? Anybody know his story? Are there actually passengers out there who are this nice?

The OP does not read like it was written by a flight attendant. I'll double down on that perspective if FlyingAround responds to Harry in the afirmative.

There is an Airtran f/a who commutes from MEX on US and he always brings cookies! Yes we ate them.

As nice as this sounds, I can also see it being a security issue. It is sad that in todays world we must be suspicious of kind gestures, but you can't take any chances.

Yes and yes to the last two posts. However, many FA's actually know the giver from past flights and that lessens the security issue, especially if the goodies are properly packed and were not subject to tampering.

Yes, you can’t be too careful with cookie PAX in the Post 9/11 World™.

A PHL-based former elite owns McDonald's franchises, and used to hand out Mickey D's coupons to US frontliners.

(He stopped flying US about 2 years ago, and is now a UA 1K.)

Way back when (pre 9/11) a group of us would take the redeye for a day trip to JFK. On the flight back, knowing the crew went right to the hotel, slept, then back to the airport for the return flight, I'd bring them 2 pizzas. I'm sure the TSA would assume the pizzas were a new weapon (plus are they liquid?) so I stopped.

I always give 5 Toblerone chocolates in the sealed box, and I am sure they are eaten. Once, when I handed them to the flight attendant, she looked at me and asked if I had any for the pilots.....I bit and said, "oh, yes there's five and two are for the flight deck". She looked at me and laughed.

My initial response to the OP was based on:

a. an unknown person (known only as cookie man), and
b. what sounded like some sort of homemade or bulk packaged cookies

If I was a flight attendant I would only eat one after I saw this guy eat one of them.

It's good to hear of ya'll's generosity out there. One time out of CLT a couple of Krispy Kreme senior people came on board a 757 back when they had the large first class section and they had something like 8 or 9 dozen donuts....they were so boisterous and friendly that I think everyone ate some of them (I know I did).

When I travel as a "normal" pax or non-rev I always bring something along for the crew. Most of the time candy that is sealed. I've had lots of pax give me candy, cookies and yes Krispy Kreme dounuts! We have a pax who hands out pens to f/a that says "flight attendants are here to save your ass not kiss it." One Christmas I had a pax give all the f/a's of my crew a gold necklace and thank us for working on X-mas eve so she could go see her grandchildren. It's the thought that counts!!

Many years ago, either 2001 or 2002, I was on a red-eye LAX-CLT going to Florida for the holidays. It was our last day of work before closing, and at 4:45 a client came and brought us from Ralphs a big round tray of cookies AND a big round tray of crab claws and shrimp. Yes, crab claws and shrimp. Here's the kicker, neither of us ate shell fish. I took both home, and decided to bring both with me on the flight. We had a 2+ hour delay, so while waiting for the inbound, I approached the crew with both trays and explained that while they're going to be up all night, they might as well have something good to snack on besides XO's. They graciously accepted and had nice snacks both on the ground and in the air!
