SWA possible new service HOU to MEX/SA

I can see this one turning into Son of The Wright Amendment (where DFW got DAL to agree to no international service). The situation already exists at MDW where VivaAerobus is flying in a couple times a week from MTY-MDW even though ORD is the preferred international airport... so CBP doesn't really cares if there are two international ports within the same city.
Even better, if WN can pull off getting pre-clearance arranged at the other end, the IAH protectionists and UA would have less room to block it, since the flights would arrive & depart domestic.

Another smart move by the WN crowd. Although these 'international' destinations are leisure markets like HNL or FLL. Just have to clear customs...

WN is smart to start the process now... it will take time to work through the process of getting a customs facility for WN's use at HOU.... but Houston is a big enough city and WN should not be forced to threaten to take this business elsewhere.
WN's revenue growth will come through opening new routes south of the US - Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean... they need to begin the planning process now but HOU is the best location for WN's Latin America growth and by the time all of the other details are worked out, WN hopefully will have resolved its IT limitations on int'l flying and will also have the necessary paperwork to operate its own aircraft. If all the other pieces fall in place first, FL's 737s and the res systems and certificates can be used.
Might actually help showcase some of the capabilities that FL brings to the merger for them to be operate the initial int'l expansion at HOU.

I'm sure most WN employees have been asked to offer their support but others might want to help WN's efforts to grow its international presence - likely to Latin America - via HOU with a new international facility.

Mexico doesn't want US pre-clearance at CUN or any other airport, even TIJ which sits on the border at the Otay Mesa crossing. US airlines and the US government have been lobbying for it, especially at CUN for years. Right now you'll have to settle for BDA, NAS, FPO, AUA, SNN, DUB, YVR, YYC, YUL, YYZ, YOW, YHZ, YEG, and YWG. PUJ is under construction.

Congrats to WN for obtaining the support of the Houston Mayor in efforts to add new int'l service to HOU - and for WN's willingness to finance the project to get it going.

To think the SWA f/a s just voted down a proposal for international/over water flying the company proposed,, that proposal seems to be a structured pay scale that was strikingly similiar to another near international carriers low pay,,,that Huge powerhouse company that flew near international and paid soooo much that their employees have been on this site screaming FOUL so many times,,
Seems that a %40+ pay raise and huge lifestlye upgrades for one group is coming back to affect the other group with a %25 pay cut,, how does that figure out in the whole great big picture of fairness???
Thanks for that great international pay structure that SWA is now trying to push onto their international workforce,,,
The reality of this Buy Out now starts to become a little more Clear
Thanks again for those great international contracts that SWA is now using for a bargaining chip,,this just gets more and more interesting and so beneficial for SWA original employees,, sooo exciting
