Shuttle America, which operates as a US Airways Express operator with Sabbs 340As and are of course a very cheap contractor, recently took over Allegheny Airlines PHL and PIT to SCE (State College, PA) routes.

The other day they apparently landed at the wrong airport! Instead of flying into University Park, they landed at Phillipsburg/Mid-State Airport... there are no facilities at that airport and the pax had to be bussed to the other airport and the flight had to be ferried 7 miles to the other airport!

Come on everyone! Cheap is good.... :D

That reminds me of when Piedmont (not the Express Company), landed at the wrong airport in Augusta Ga with a B737.............lol

I think it hapened to poor TWA in thier twilight as well, in Colarado.

I believe this also happened to UA several years ago, when they landed at Troutdale, Or. (TTD), which is a G.A. field directly east of PDX. Not sure of the A/C type (727? DC-8?), though. Maybe someone else can help fill in the details?

At least the runway headings are the same 6/24. Delta had a DC9 land at MacDill AFB instead of Tampa International and the runway headings arent even the same. Try explaining that!

Shuttle America is some outfit. 30 psgr. A/C that can't really take all 30 if they wanrted to. Best case that I have seen so far is 28 with a few bags left behind. Why contract a carrier like this that can't get the job done????

Allegheny had a F-27 land at Republic Field on Long Island, flight was destined to ISP, Republic single runway, versus ISP three runways, none with the heading of Republic. It has happened to the best, I don't think "CHEAP" contributes.

I believe some time ago TWA landed a 707 at Don Scott Airport in Columbus, instead of Port Columbus... and TWA flew to Port Columbus since the days of the plane-train 2-day transcon....

Also, I recall Continental did this with a B737-500, landing at an abandoned Air Force Base instead of Corpus Christi, TX.

While not common, probably not indicative of an airline in chaos.

Actually, that incident at Troutdale has long been regarded as intentional. The captain did it on a dare. At least that's the word around the tower cab.

The TW CMH incident occurred in the summer of 1967. It was a non-fan 707-131, so the story is that they had to pretty much gut the interior of the 'plane, seats and all, to get it light enough to take off for the hop over to Port Columbus.
The good part (for TW) is that the aircraft landed at midnight and they were able to get it airborne at first light, without the local media finding out until well after the fact!

A couple of other well-known "oopsies":

Western, 737, mid-70s, landed at Buffalo, Wyoming instead of nearby Sheridan (yes, Sheridan, WY had scheduled jet service back then!).
Delta, 737 or DC-9, mid-80s, Frankfort, KY instead of LEX.

Whats all this hipe about landing at the wrong airport.
Any landing that you can walk away from is a good landing!

Lets not get to pickey!

because ccy doesnt' care about getting the job done right, they just care about how cheaply it can be done
