Salisbury-to-Charlotte flights on the way
Air travelers will be able to fly from Salisbury, Md., to Charlotte, N.C., when U.S. Airways adds round-trip service from the Lower Shore's regional airport to its largest hub in two months.
Officials for the Salisbury-Ocean City Wicomico Regional Airport announced last week that Salisbury-based Piedmont Airlines, the US Airways express carrier serving the Lower Shore, will begin flying to Charlotte on April 4.
Robert Bryant, manager of the airport, said Lower Shore air travelers have expressed interest in a flight from Salisbury to Charlotte.
"We have heard the request many times," he said. "The advantage is it opens a lot of the smaller markets in the Southeast."
The airport now offers six daily flights to Philadelphia International Airport and one each day to Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C. On April 4, one flight will depart Salisbury in the morning to Charlotte, with a return flight in the evening.
