This is supposed to be the new and better American,” said TWU International president Harry Lombardo. “Management has said they want to have better labor relations than existed at either US Airways or the old American. Yet, the airline’s leadership has locked mechanics and other ground workers represented by IAM into a second class status where they get lower pay and fewer benefits than workers represented by TWU for the same work at the same airline.”

Has anyone read the US Air current contract language on holidays,IOD, Holidays, OT pay?
maybe you want to rethink this one?

You do realize the US mechanics are basically working under the two chapter 11 CBAs with some improvements from the Transition Agreement of 2008.

They want increases in money, pension, vacations, sick time, scope and other things.

They have been in negotiations for almost three years, its time, US is making profits and wont pass it on.

They went behind their own employees backs and negotiated deals with the AA unions and not their own.

what is so sad is that you went through 2 bankruptcy's and US Air has better benefits and work rules.  On that note: there is no reason for a US Air mechanics to make less money than us at AA.   A mechanic is a mechanic period.

Lets not forget the projected income of 3 BILLION dollars. Its time to pay up AA/USAir. Looks like there is plenty of bargaining room for the USAir employees

All you need to do is read this paragraph from the article. Just about sums it all up:

"American/US Airways management signed a contract with the TWU before American emerged from bankruptcy and entered into a merger. It argues that it wants to move ahead to negotiate contracts that would cover all of the mechanics and all of the fleet service workers at the combined airline, so there is no need to negotiate interim contracts with US Airways employees."

That's pretty much an ignorant comment. How can you move ahead and negotiate a contract that covers a whole group if they work under different contracts and different unions. What do you expect? The mechanics at US Airways to wait 4 more years to negotiate one contract.Again management out of touch with reality. Things never change do they?.The company is using separate unions to their advantage. They have the best TWU management contract locked up for 4 more years and they know it will take more than a year for the IAM and the TWU to come up with whatever stupid association they want to come up with.

To fix this problem we have to become one union ASAP and to do this we have to get rid of both the IAM and the TWU.

One more thing, do you think it was a coincidence that they got the merger done before DP's stock options expired? What did he get 13 million after taxes? I guess it was convenient to get that merger done asap, for management at least. But with the unions they stall and stall.

Lets get this done!!!! Sign a Amfa card!!!

I've got a question. Would it take two seperate AMFA drives to drop the IAM at US, and TWU at AA? Or would it be better to wait till they are under one Certificate? But remember, you're dealing with two seperate Unions here.

Disingenuous is more like it. Sure they would like to negotiate one deal outside of section six where we are dead last by a wide margin. As long as the IAM retains the strike option there is the possibility for real collective bargaining instead of collective begging.
