Rumor Of Airtran Buying Midwest Airlines?

Maybe it will be announced today in MCI. Who knows these days. I don't. If these 2 get together, good for them. Just my thoughts..........

Airtran is Valujet!!!

Now they have done a very good job (in PR) getting away from the Valujet image.

Valujet bought the Airtran name!

My point exactly! The memory of ValueJet is long gone for most folks. Anyone attempting to merge/buy with AirTran will inherit a well-repaired and now well-respected partner.

(I wish the still-to-be-approved "new US Airways" as much luck with their upcoming PR damage control.)

Airtran did a heck of a job distancing itself from Valujet. The PR department should be applauded. But, US's PR problems are much different and much easier to repair than what Airtran had to tackle.

I understand only three of Midex's MD80's are now in the 2-2 F112 config and all the rest of the MD80's are 2-3 Y147. The three 112 seaters are being parked in Dec.

I heard that Airtran might buy Midwest Airlines, is this a possibility or just a rumor?

Thanks in advance.

What is the upside of buying them? There is none.. If they go out of business you can scoop the assets for pennies..

What do they bring to the table? Nothing comes to mind.

There's already a fairly long thread on this rumor just a couple of topics down the list: See the "Midex" thread.

The two threads have now been merged. Never mind...
