I am retired from U and working at HP. Just got a letter in the mail stating that they will be stopping my retirement pay. So someone from CWA and or Teamsters please answer this. If they're stopping my retirement pay do I get my seniority back?? I need an official answer please. Thanks

Dang, Drifter..that really stinks. I know several people that retired with the early out have had some problems with benefits, but your situation is completeley different. You may be able to contact someone from the CWA, several people remember you! I'll pm you the info. Good luck!

drifterreno,

Did the letter come from the company or the PBGC?

Jim
The letter came from USAirways--SkyHarbor Blvd--but the company was informed of the situation from PBGC. When I talked to Doug personally he said they couldn't take both from me. Now I'm thinking about emailing him. What do you think??

I agree with coach - may or may not help but can't hurt.

Since the info came from the PBGC, it might be worth giving them a call also. Common sense would say they should either keep paying you or adjust your retirement age (and associated early retirement penalty) for when you retire from "new" US. It sure doesn't seem like they should have the best of both worlds - use your age when you started getting retirement from "old" US to calculate your retirement benefit but make you wait till you retire from "new" US to get the benefit.

Anyway, good luck

Jim

Let me know what happens...we just lost an employee for this very same reason---it was effective immediately...she retired from US and came back to work for HP early this year--like before the big announcement.

I am trying to get an answer for you...do you have a contact where I can forward any info I do get?

Hi

Don't know anything about this. A retired US Airways person should probably
direct this question to Rick Braswell at CWA - 202-434-1135. If you need
for us to pursue it we more info. Why would this cause someone from HP to
resign?
Can we get a copy of the letter so we can see if there is something we can
do. Names and details would help.

I'm now in contact with someone on the bargaining table with CWA. She's a great person and Thanks noname for the info. She's going to check things out for me. Can't get anything out of teamsters.

Teamsters are only a bargaining unit at the time and cannot deal with grievances and other problems. Their only capacity at the time is to negotiate a contract. -_-

not so...we do have a temp greivance procedure out....

You might want to see what happens to the HP station mgr. in SEA. He was retired from US in CLT then got hired by HP and is now back in the US tent.

This is difficult:

The PBGC does not permit anyone to collect a pension from a corporation and work at the same corporation. The key question is, is US Airways the same corporation? For example, the former Eastern employees who went to work for Shuttle and then to US Airways were able to collect their Eastern pension from the PBGC in addition to collecting their paycheck from US Airways. The difference is that even though they were folded into the US Airways population via the acquisitions and were collecting pension service credits from U, their former employer no longer existed. There is a benefits attorney at the AFA-CWA that might be able to help you.
