Interviewing on the 2nd. Live in pdx, currently a fa for a regional. Previously commuted as far as Denver so I am not completely ignorant as to how difficult it can be. Though I was a lineholder. Just like opinions on commuting to the east. Also any info on reserve in general, is it possible to manipulate your schedule to get more blocks of days off together? Do you ever get released early on your last day?

Well, basically as a reserve you are required to be in base from midnight on your 1st day on til midnight of your last day off up to 6 days in a row. Currently, we only get 11 days off per month. I am not sure about PDQ flights, but flights in general can be difficult depending on the day of the week. Being a VERY junior reserve you will not (unfortunatley) hold weekends off so you should be okay with commuting in for your Tues start. Sometimes they will release 2 days out (after future) but not always...

As far as manipulating, it is all in what you bid.... again you aren't going to have many choices as a new hire
Keep in mind, that we are almost finished with our contract negotiations.. so things are going to change dramatically... so, this may be a moot point for you at this point...

Good luck with your interview and hope to see you out on line with us soon

Days off can vary for reserves. The current reserve system is not a user friendly one. But to be honest it works for those who do not want to fly and live in base. Sometimes they release early into days off, but that is not something to count on. Your days off can run 2 2 3 4, 2 2 2 5, etc. You are guaranteed 11 days a month free of duty but they do not put them all together. Just with any reserve system it has its pros and cons.

Also.... We do fly free (cabin agreements) on almost any US airline which helps with your commuting

Its amazing because in another post the both of you are "ripping" everything that U has to offer, but here you are as smooth as honey....

If you are a commuter as a new hire, it WILL be a challenge. You're best best is to live in base until things (if they ever) settle with our contract.

As far as I am concerned. I am THRILLED to have new FAs onboard! We may B&M but we are a "typical" family! Not perfect, but we stick up for each other!

Hope to see you :D

Really? I wasn't "ripping" anything about US itself...
This poster asked a question and I answered it... Just like in my previous post on another thread... WHY can't you people just take the information and leave it at that?????????????

I still say if you want to be a flight attendant go to another airline that as true growth like Delta or Southwest... That is in no way "ripping" on US it is a FACT!!

The "issue" was a pi$$ing match that MustangSally and I were having NOT about US..... We settle it though....

Keep in mind with commuting that US Airways only flies CLT-PDX seasonally. You would have to connect (PDX-PHX-CLT, PDX-SEA-CLT, PDX-LAX-CLT, etc.). It could be rougher than you think.
