Reddings Response

Your high and mighty attitude is pretty sickening. Reading your posts would makes it sounds like the 2nd coming of Lord will be an airline mechanic.

I have never said I was "high and mighty". You are saying it. I simply post with my real identity so YOU know who I am. When I am wrong YOU will know I am wrong, not someone like imagolfer who uses the shadows to keep warm.

What is truly "sickening" is someone who defends management's actions when they have negative effects on a skilled work force. I am simply asking imagolfer to admit he was wrong in his opinion of Mr. Reding's e-mail. Why is that so "high and mighty".

I'll tell you what is high and mighty, its that fact that you constantly refer to yourself as a "skilled" worker. When people ask me what I do for a living i don't say I'm a "skilled" XXXXX. Do the pilots, flight attendents, schedulers, anyone else on the board refer to themselvers as "Skilled" pilots, "Skilled" doctors, or "skilled" etc....

Everyone that works for a living has certain skills, not just AMTs.

As for IMAGolfer not stating his name, who cares? Why would someone, in this day and age, state their full name on internet forum. Who knows who is reading this. The fact that you get some sort of satisfaction out of letting everyone know who you are is your own choice.

If a pilot wishes to refer to him/herself as a skilled pilot I have no problem with that. You seem to miss the point of my referencing my craft as a skilled one. I will not elaborate since that would only tax your ability for understanding some of the hurdles my profession must meet.

Perhaps when you are traveling over 500 MPH at around 32,000' you would prefer a NON/UNSKILLED AMT to have repaired your aircraft.

Regarding your question about imagolfer I am curious as to whom he/she may be because from behind an alias he/she defended the actions of management simply because he/she did not think they were capable of sending such an ignorant e-mail which offended my SKILLED craft & profession.

He/she was wrong. I simply asked him/her to admit they were wrong. Why you ask? Because I believe that management is NOT high and mighty. ;)

Why would someone use their real name in this day and age? Oh, I don't know. Maybe because they believe in being accountable for their posts/actions?

----- Don't let it get to you Ken! He just doesn't like your mascot!-----

Ah, come on! EVERYBODY likes a Super Hero!

I guess I just assumed that because you were an AMT working for AA that you were skilled. Apparently that isn't good enough for you, you feel the need to belabor the point about how rough you've had it. When in fact your profession is no different than hundreds of others that have seen downsizing. All airline employees (except for the very few at the top) have seen their pay and benefits decrease since deregulation. Part of that is due to an increase in competition and the other part is due to unions not be able to adjust to today's world and also caring far more about dues than about their membership.

Keep in mind Ken, that it takes a lot of SKILLED people to keep that airplane that you work on flying, the management types that you find so unimportant. The revenue management people, finance, etc... keep that plane flying just as much as you do and if they aren't SKILLED then you'll be fixing Volvos soon enough.

<_< ---- Just a little bet of information for you Oneflyer,----- A "skilled" Mechanic that works on your Volvo, most of the time, makes more money than Ken, or myself! And doesn't have the responsibility, or expense, associated with repairing Aircraft!!!------

More proof that unions are overrated.

I guess that is proof you and Ken aren't that bright.

You're right. Most auto mechanics have the ability to make more money than you guys do.

But then again, the Volvo mechanic doesn't get quite the same fringes as you guys do; space available seats for you and your family on flights throughout the world, discounts on positive space tickets anywhere you want to fly and a defined benefit pension plan (doubt very many Volvo mechanics have that).

Everybody makes choices about how they spend their days (or nights) putting food on the table. Some choices turn out to be very lucrative and some choices don't look so rich. Equal opportunity is important, not equal outcome.

As always, I hope that AMR's fortunes continue to improve and that your wages can be increased. And I sincerely hope you guys don't give AMR management any incentive to pull a NW and replace the mechanics with scabs.

Quite frankly, anyone who sticks around AA or any other airline simply for love of the industry has pretty much given up the right to b|tch about how little they make compared to mechanics in other industries.
