why are Iowa and Oregon listed as zones in this R&R press release if the flights must be operated by US or an express carrier? US doesnt fly to these states, and travel cannot be on United.

I don't know the exact number, but several of UA's PDX-DEN/ORD flights are US Airways codeshares.

We don't fly to Iowa anymore? Jeez, I didn't realize the Air Midwest flying out of MCI had been cut back that badly. Figures...
