You lost me there 12. "Empowered" by opting for a strike that would end my own career.
Unless I have missed something, a strike does away with my job as well as yours. I am not doing this for a sense of empowerment. I will not simply accept a contract to save the jobs of others. The harsh reality is that is not my responsibility.
Luv, unfortunately what some of the others know is that many of the pilots are well educated and may prosper in other fields while some employees(Im NOT saying no one else is well educated) may not be able to find other employment at their current wages. As the saying goes, I dont have a dog in this fight and only want this settled but the pilots have a right to do what they feel is necessary. Due to the unstable nature of this industry all of us should have a plan B. Many pilots I have spoken with have been financially preparing for the worst and all of us should have money put away for a rainy day. If pilots feel managment has money tucked away who could blame them. Too many times management has been able to lower wages with new contracts and than give themselves bonuses for doing it. Some companies have give bonuses to keep their "talent" while implementing cuts to other employees. There is much distrust with managment and they have no one to blame but themselves. Good Luck to all of you.

Seeing as this was tagged onto Luv's response to me, let me just say that my concern is not about education levels and plan B's. I and most of the others that I work with are educated with advanced degrees AND have worked in other industries where would could go, as a plan B, and even make more $$. The issue is that most of us like plan A. I left the industry and made more $$ but something was missing. If you are in the industry, you know. The issue is that many of us cannot relocate just to stay in the industry b/c we have spouses who have equally, if not more, important jobs than us or we have kids that frankly would not benefit from uprooting every two years just to stay with plan A. But again...I like plan A and hope to stick with it despite making far less than at plan B.

So the argument about pilots being superiorly educated is highly inaccurate. Yes...vs. some functions, but vs. many functions, they are much less educated but who cares? Even a Phd/MBA with a JD on the side will be out of their job with their plan A if there is a strike. I would imagine that if people valued their plan B's as much or more than their plan A's, they would be there. So even the pilots truly don't want their plan B's more than plan A. Simple as that. We're ALL here b/c we have a passion.

Ummmm....you REALLY have got me confused with WT. I have NEVER gone to the UA board and made negative comments about your airline. That was WT. Please do not make anything up b/c anyone can attest to that. I have supported UA so wherever you get that I have been "very vocal against" them, give it up. I never made one bad comment about them. Please don't make anything up.

I wish UA the best. Please take a few moments and read the history of all of my posts...every one if you want. You won't find a single bad word about UA so don't make that up. Others have maybe said bad things but don't bring your jaded attitude to me b/c I have NEVER EVER gone against UA. AA? Yes. B6? Yes. But not UA.

True...never on the UA board, but yes on the Delta board.

QUOTE(FWAAA @ Mar 14 2006, 12:38 PM)

My prediction: Look for the merger/combination/purchase by UA to be announced shortly after the DL pilots agree to gut their pay.

The blind-leading-the-blind approach? I guess it would throw people off, that is for sure. I would give the success of such an aimless merger the same chances as I gave Indy Air's biz plan.

How is that bad to say that a carrier just out of BK would be unwise to purchase a carrier in BK? That would be like US buying TW before the AA acquisition. If that hurt your feelings, you are really digging deep and making an issue where there isn't one. Did I say that I wished UA doom? No. Did I say that it would be dumb for them to acquire a struggling carrier when they (UA) are just getting back on their feet? Yes...just not in so many words. Nice try. You confused me with someone else and can't admit it so you try to spin.

ADDRESSED to Ch.12,

"THERE IT IS, Ch.12" !!!

luv2fly COULD NOT have made it any more PLAIN !!

IF you lose your job, it will be because DELTA AIRLINES voided a legal contract(WHICH "THEY" SIGNED onto), and they're being WARNED not to do it.

I have an Idea for you and your work group, and I'm very SERIOUS when I say it;

Tell DL(A WARNING), if they slash your wages MORE, (because THEY---DELTA AIRLINES---chose NOT to go to WAR with DALPA), that your work group will "withhold" your services.

This same theory pertains to the F/A's, Ramp, and Agents as well !!!

Don't blame a certain work group for your potential misfortune, when you(and yours) are unwilling to take a stand, to prevent it !!!

?????

Ps,

I HOPE to god, that your reply is'nt (something like), "WELL we (DL Amt's) would do what you've suggested, B U T , we would get fired, BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE A .......... U N I O N"

Why don't you tell this to the vendors who supply DL. How 'bout GE who has taken it in the shorts. Tell them all to take a stand!

It's always the same with you...just worded in a different order. I can almost guarantee that mgmt will not go to the rest of the group of the selfish ones continue to be childish and not give it up like the rest. You are an example where pride is a detriment. You can't be so proud to take a stand just to take a stand that you are ignorant to the fact that the industry is in tough shape. Even if I were unionized, I would be in the 3% that voted NOT to strike b/c I have enough brains to see the forest. DALPA only sees the trees...or at least claims to. Such a smart group should know that it's pretty dumb to try to maintain disproportionate wages during a severe downturn in the industry...one unlike ANY down cycles of the past. Yes...they signed a contract but that was one that was strong-armed as well. Do you honestly ever see a contract negotiation where mgmt says here's a very high figure for you and the union says "ok"? NO. Just like EVERY negotiation since unions became corrupted and lost focus of what they should really stand for, mgmt never gets what is necessary and the union never gets what it wants. And the middle ground is usually more detrimental to the company and just less of a "bonus" for the unionized.

Get over it. I would join a union if my work conditions were poor or if there was a real issue out there but it's pretty dumb to do it just to keep a wage that helps significantly to keep my company in the red.

Your recruiting rants are lost on me and always will be b/c you can't see the forest. Take a step back and figure things out.

I "Know" what Gerry "promised" you non union people. !!
I "know" that GERRY was right beside "LEO" when he gave the "OK" to pay DALPA their last raise !!

Now for a few questions;

IF DL does'nt risk a strike by DALPA, and accepts DALPA's offer of $150M towards the $325M that they say they need, Where will DL go for the "additional $175M" ?????

IF GERRY "break his IRON CLAD promise" to you, to NOT go after the NON Union people(because he CAVED into DALPA), who will you BLAME for your financial demise......DALPA or GERRY ??
(I can't WAIT to see your answer to THIS particuliar question) !!

FLY has ALWAYS had the right "STUFF", to post under her own "handle", why I ask, do you think she would deviate from that now ?????????
