Ok all you SWA folks, please give me a reasonalble answer to this question....

"Why do you allow preboarding passengers to take up most of the front of the plane?"

Case in point....PIT to MDW yesterday. Preboarding consisted of 6 families with children/infants. They managed to grab most of the front of the plane leaving the rest of us "A" boarders to take seats behind them.

Now here's more to my story.....upon arrival in MDW these preboarders then took an extraordinarily long time in gathering their little ones and their luggage to get their behinds off the plane.

I'm sorry but preboarders should be required to move to the back of the plane. I'm certain there are a lot of people that feel this way. First on = last off.

IMO

Well my friend shall we also force large people, blue eyed people, left handed people or anyone with some type of difference other than yours to the back of the plane? Its called discrimination. You can not force anyone for any reason (with the expection of the emergency exit row) to sit in a particular place on the plane. Many people will sympthazie with you in this matter.
Lets say you paid 300.00 more to fly Delta and had your assigned seat in 18A and there were multiple families with assigned seats in rows 12, 15, 17? Would you also make them remain seated? are you going to argue that you wouldn't have to wait if you had an assigned seat? can you imagine going up to a ticket agent at an airline and saying "please make sure i am in front of all the people that will require some type of assistance.." stop and think about your so called 'problem' and pray that you never have children or some type of disablity- or for that matter don't move fast enough for the person behind you. Its called humanity and being graceous. You should be so lucky that you have the ability to "dash" to you next flight! Start your own carrier called "AirLite" your ad could say " no kids, no luggage, no wheelchairs, no problem! Come fly us!

skyguy, if it will make you feel any better, then next time I preboard with my 14 yr old son who has cerebral palsy, we will make sure we sit somewhere in the aft section of the aircraft.

In truth, we prefer it back there (we know which rows get served first by the FAs {employees formerly known as "hostesses"}).

Actually, we wish they had never removed the backwards facing seats in the aft lounge, but Colleen did not bother to check with us before doing that.

Back to the issue at hand. Rest assured you will never have to worry about me, or my son, taking your precious seat in the front part of the cabin.

ELP i agree with you 100% i think you that missed the point. It was the original poster that has the issue - NOT ME. i hope this message was intended for trvlr64 and not skyguy. i think that you should be on trvlr64's flight and sit right in the first row!

I agree 110%. That happened to me. I flew PVD-MDW and there were 5 families with infants and they took the front seats so I was seated in the middle instead of the front!

Your response skyguy was expected. And let's take my question in the context it was asked....shall we?

People with disabilities, children and adults, were not the focus of my question.

It was parents with children in general. But since you so eloquently decided that I'm a jerk by asking this question, don't fear, I won't ever ask a simple question on the SWA board again.

I will also NEVER fly SWA again. Thank god B6 is coming to PIT.

And as for FAT people taking up extra space. There just happened to be 2 rather LARGE, FAT A$$ed people sitting in the row across from me. This HUSBAND and WIFE took the aisle and window. Since this was a FULL FLIGHT, the gentleman that got stuck sitting in the middle seat was about the size of twig, thankfully. Since this was a husband and wife traveling together IMO the husband should have moved his BIG FAT A$$ next to his wife so that the skinny man could have had the aisle.

And don't worry, I don't have the need or desire to procreate.

And as for being gracious, I'll continue this tale of mine with what happened on the return flight home last night.

Once again this was a FULL FLIGHT. Every seat was taken. Since I was one of the last people on the plane I got to sit in the middle seat in row 1. Since this is the bulk head row I know quite well that I have to place my briefcase in the overhead since I don't have a seat in front of me to place my briefcase. You see, I happen to believe that I am quite capable of placing my briefcase on the floor infront of me on EVERY airline I fly. So I am very very gracious to other passengers in this matter.

Well, I go to place my briefcase in the overhear when the man sitting in 1C says to me that his leather jacket is there. I "kindly" removed it and handed it to him and said..."that's why he have laps". And I placed my briefcase in the overhead and took my coat and placed it upon my lap during the flight. He on the other hand immediately had to place his leather coat in the overhead. God forebid he have to hold that coat the entire flight.

So you see skyguy, I can be gracious. When it's required.

Plus, Jetblue has a little more confort AND Small TV's

So gracious that you handled other peoples belongings to them and forced them to hold them the whole flight? There wasn't room for 2 jackets in the bin on top of your case? Isn't SWA the airline that mandates large people to buy two seats? Obviously these people weren't that large that is became a comfort or saftey issue.
Maybe Jetblue will suit you better. They are a great airline. Maybe you can watch yourself on TV when the landing gear may or may not come down. Why not just fly USAirways again? i guess their decades of attitude have rubbed off on the flying public. Or better yet. when you fly SWA tell you need to preboard with your 15 friends that no one else can see or hear - thats what i do. Works everytime ;)

A couple of years ago SWA did require all preboarding families to sit beyond row 14. It became to much of a hassle to keep enforcing the rule, especialy with all the letters of complaints and threats of lawsuits for discrimination that SWA got. Doing it this way is just less confrontational.

THANK YOU TANKER for the polite and reasonable answer to my question. That's all I asked for and now I'm properly informed.

Didn't one airline try boarding assisted passengers last to speed up the boarding process once? I love it when the preboards go down the jetway followed by everyone else, you get nowhere fast other than standing on the jetway forever. Last week I actually witnessed a Midwest gate agent watching down the jetway till the pre's got onto the plane before she continued boarding....a novel concept.

I do agree though that the preboarders should wait till everyone is off the aircraft (especially if they are sitting up front) as there are many behind them that are in a hurry or running for connecting flights. Nothing worse than walking at a snails pace in a jetway when your flight was late and you have a tight connection you are trying to make.
