Possible Merger With Aa

What would Usair bring to AA. A nice portfolio of hard to acquire international routes, NO. A nice fleet of planes compatible with AA fleet, NO. A hub in a nice centrally located city with lots of traffic, maybe. Phl is too close to New York to be of any value. CTL is of some value but is it to AA, doubtful. Why would AA want the headache and union lawsuits of another TWA. It time to let US go to the history books. I'm sorry for being realistic folks, Piedmont was a great airline but US has become a dog, Wolf built into too many flees. One airline needs to go broke.

Nothing besides 250 slots at LGA and 334 slots at DCA, along with some gates. That's all. And it won't take a merger to buy those. Just cash.

Earlier this fall, the slots were appraised at $347 million to $462 million, depending on the appraisal and technique plus another $15 million to $98 million for all US gates at all airports nationwide. The LGA and DCA gates are presumed to make up the bulk of that value.

AA's got plenty of furloughed employees and aircraft are easy to obtain these days. No need to acquire any US airplanes or staff.

Yeh, I hear another 500 of your pilots going on the street soon. Everything coming up roses with AA right!

Or waive your labor protective provisions in bankruptcy court. This merger talk is nonsense. With all due respect to the people at U, this would be another disaster for AA. The TWA asset purchase contributed heavily to AA's current financial woes. AA people were totally incensed with the TWA deal. IF this were to happen it would kill AA.

Honestly, WN seems in the mood to bid for gates. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they attempted to big for US's DCA mainline slots and gates. They would get enough presence at a major airport to make it profitable, and DCA is not delay prone, allowing for quick turns. AA and DL would be happy to get the commuter slots.

a big announcement in Feb, 2005

I cannot believe you all bit on this...FEB of 05. Based on current finances and poor management....U will indeed be involved in an exchange of assets then...a SALE of assets. Greeter.

No offense but.....
Nothing would expedite my departure and resignation from this airline faster then a merger with AA. There are just nasty to everyone they have ever bought or merged with. No thanks. They hosed the TWA people with a smile on there face and I would not give them the satisfaction.

You better watch out because AA has a track record of buying LOSERS.[TWA]

No, speaking with the recent experiences of entering into a transaction with a dead airline.

AA has tremendous problems of its own. It doesn't need U's problems as well. An AA - U merger would not have any synergy, but would bring immersurable fatal problems for AA.

The "big announcement" upcoming at AA is in all likelyhood more layoffs and shrinkage of the airline.
