PIT in Top 10 Most Delay Prone Airports

Interesting, they say US is doing better because it built "more buffer" into its schedule....that's ok, the extra costs there will be absorbed by doing away with $.03 pretzels, charging for sodas, and eliminating movies.

I guess, but what is up w/PIT?

I thought they prided themselves on not being PHL.

What happened?

I had to read the chart three times just in case the cocktail had kicked in too soon.

The chart does not break down by airline so with US being the major carrier from both PIT and PHL one would think that they would be in step with each other.

Also considering if padding did so much for US why wouldn't other carriers try to up their numbers by doing the same thing at other airports?

Could US somehow shift their delays to PIT?

Would not PIT be operating under the same padding as PHL?

READ the article, and then follow along with me......

Excluding US Airways which still has the majority of the flights in and out of PIT, there are 4 other major carriers that have flights to primary hubs/focus cities:

1. American Airlines - ORD, JFK, DFW
2. United Airlines - ORD, IAD
3. Continental - EWR
4. JetBlue - JFK
5. Delta - ATL, JFK, BOS

Okay. Now, again, look at the airports that are ABOVE PIT on the delays list.

Repeat after me, EWR, ORD, JFK, DFW, IAD, BOS.

In other words, the MAJORITY of the traffic other than US Airways is being directed to overcrowded hubs.

Believe me, the penalty box in PIT can become quite crowded after 2:30p.m. and most of the flights that are waiting for ATC clearance are CO, UA, and AA.

Now, US Airways is not completely innocent in this matter, as they have flights to LGA, EWR, and BOS. Also, PHL can be problematic from time to time, but overall, you can't blame US Airways alone for PIT having a top 10 rating for delays.

Just thought I'd share the big picture with yinz.

My point seems to be missed.

To put it in terms everyone can understand - why is PIT on this list and not PHL?

From what I've read from the above posts it's padding in PHL (which also has flights to these other hubs) and/or the congestion at these places.

So the answer is that flights to overly busy airports is the root of the 'Burghs problems?

Because PHL serves more than just other hub cities. It serves quite a few nonhub cities where their performance, on the whole, is better than PIT serving mainly large, congested hubs.

What is the schedule these days in PIT? Frequency to other cities. Still a focus city?? LAS is in you very shoes coming SEP.
