Pilots Recruitment

Ironman2909

I would like to find out if they have something like, psychological, Personality profile, Vocational, Intelligence, IQ, Reasoning, Wisdom, Word relationship, Creative thinking, Brainteasers, Interests, handwriting and so on. Please let me know whatever you do in this field.

When I went in, I got two full weeks (Saturdays included) just of this stuff. They were the very first ones followed by the medicals. But the psycho tests were those that took the bigger toll. More then 50% failed them and the medicals put down another 30% with 10% of other different reasons.

The approval rate was always around 10% of the total !!!

Well to answer to your question rotorpilot.....

because I'm enrolling from the direct entry officers program I don't think I will have to pass those tests. As for now, the next step is to sign my contract with the army. As soon it's been made, I got to go to St-Jean for 13 weeks for the officers basic training and so on..... :)

But I will let you know all the procedures as they will come, hopefully If I passed the medical back in Downsview.

Here we go!!!!! :blur:

I received the good news about my application. It seems I'm good to go and probably will sign my contract next week!

Got the word yesterday from the recruitment center that I was promoted and they were waiting for the papers. :D

Now the big game begin, the 13 weeks of basic training and then direct to Moose Jaw on the Harvard II. :p

CONGRATS I2909  BEST OF LUCK AND I HOPE IT'S ALL THAT YOU ARE EXPECTING.

"then direct to Moose Jaw on the Harvard II."

Ironman 2909: give it all you've got and enjoy the ride as you go. A little check of my logbook reveals that Lesson Plan No 1 (Famil) was completed in Harvard 368 on 11 Feb 58 with Flying Officer Laurie Friesen instructing and myself in the front seat. 'Twas an auspicious day.....my birthday. How could I not go on to get my wings? B)

Good Luck.

:D Good Show best of luck 2909 - don't let the inital BS get to you - its only for a small % of your career

Another route into the military flying gamesappears to be through direct recruitment of technicians. The AF is paying for some trades to take technical training at the Tech schools such as SAIT. AFIK avionics is the only one at the moment that is A/C specific. During school thue get about $2200 per month plus tuition. ALSO, they are being asked if they would like to apply for pilot training if they have a pilot's license.

seems as though the AF is looking towards re-mustering technical trades into flying jobs if they are interested and of course meet medical and other requirements.

Anyone else hear about this route??

I can't see how becoming a tech would be a short cut to pilot training...On initial application you can apply to be both but it's more likely to be bait to get people into the recruiting centres.
For those with no knowledge of how the military works, once you are trained as a tech it would be harder to change from NCM to Officer than if you came into the pilot trade direct from civvy street. There are lots of "x's" to put in boxes to make the switch...

Graunch,

I hear you, there are always exceptions! Which is good in my opinion. I would hate to have the door shut in my face! Keep the carrot up there for morale...

I just re-read your previous post. They will only entertain applicants with a pilot's licence?

Don't know for sure as the person telling about has his CPL - low time however and they asked him to apply for aircrew and he declined

Was there any reason in particular for them declining the aircrew opportunity? Man, it always seemed to be the dream job, now no one wants to do it! So much for the pilot seat being bait...What's going on?!

Simple, he didn't want to be a pilot as his chosen career.

I know this probably seems like a strange view of the world because I guess most of the people on this site are pilots or pilot wannabes. That being said, the aviaiton career outside the cockpit is often far more interesting and definately more challenging-rewarding than sitting in an a/c all days following orders from ATC and pushing buttons on an autopilot. Yeah I know that is simplifying the comment but apart from the occaisonal snippet of excitement, airline flying is simply that. Plus you are away from home all the time

Was the guy offered 'Aircrew' or pilot. There is a big difference. There are more than just pilots in cockpits. There are several other aircrew jobs that do not involve steering the bus.

I just assumed he would take the opportunity to apply for pilot because he has his CPL. My bad!

The 500 MOCs are understaffed too, although they have stopped offering the enrollment $$ bonus, from what I've heard. Relatively good news for the people coming out of AME college and looking for work right now. There are some real training delays on the tech side, though. At least they can get some wrench pulling time until the civvie biz takes off again...

DemonAESOp,

Aren't the NCM aircrew positions an extension of an existing trade (ie. FE must be a tech first) or can you recruit people directly from the street and train them up?
