Pi Trivia Question

I’m getting “old timersâ€￾ disease and can not remember my name most of the time, so I have a question for the board. What was the name of the Piedmont frequent flyer program and what were the various levels of membership?

I always get questions of why I chose “l4piâ€￾ as my handled and it always generates a lot of trips down memory lane. The question above came up at the roach fest and no one knew the answer. One of the roaches has since come up with a name and it just doesn’t sound right.

Can anybody remember what it was?

I think it was simply Frequent Flyer... when PI stopped flying in 1989, frequent flyer programs were in their infancy and were not advanced to the point of having differant levels. The only cities that had first class were LGW SFO LAX, and we SOLD first class on those flights, You couldn't upgrade with the program. Frequent Flyer numbers were only used to earn a free flight.

The good ol days when you made money by selling your product. What a novel idea.

PI had first class more to then just three cities, I use to fly first class all the time, remember the payroll deduct upgrades?

1984: Piedmont introduces transcontinental flights, featuring First Class for the first time in the company's history.

November, 1986: Piedmont announces "The airline rated highest in service without even having First Class, introduces First Class" and plans to offer First Class on every aircraft in the fleet by summer, 1987.

Don't know the answer to the FF question...

Jim

The program was simply known as Piedmont's Frequent Flyer Bonus Program and initially rewarded members for flights, hotel stays at Radisson and Hertz car rentals.

Thanks for all the answers. This is what the other roach found on an old time table. Doesn't sound very sexy does it?

I can remember flying first class to many other cities other than the cities listed above, but it seems like I had to buy the upgrade for $50.00. I also remember it being worth every penny of it. Doesn't seem possible that was almost 20 years ago.

Thanks again for all the answers

I'm shocked that you doubted my findings, l4pi. I guess you just don't know me very well. ;)

I too can remember doing the west coast upgrades. Too bad the FC transcon service isn't much more that what coach was in the late 80s, except for the bigger seat and free booze.

Uh OH. I'm Busted.

One of the things I learned a long time ago was to never trust anyone with the same last name as yours. :p

Thanks for the link. I spent about thirty minutes looking through it trying to find the answer to no avail. It is a great trip down memory lane for those who have never been there before.
