PHL XMAS OPS

LGA was fed from a local resturant/caterer that is at the Marine Air Terminal. There where hot trays of Baked Ziti, String Beans, Sliced Turkey-Gravy, and some sort of Mystery Meat, Cold trays of Potato Salad, Macoroni Salad and Cole Slaw. 3 kinds of hero's, and 4 kinds of Pies. LGA had huge delays and cancellations all day due to fog and low ceilings. which made this great jesture even more appreciated. The food was really good and plentiful, a big improvement over Thanksgiving which was also appreciated. It made working on Christmas a lot easier to bear.

Happy Holidays Everybody

LGA777

Local management provided 5 Honey Baked Hams and that was it. The agents brought in the rest of the food, drinks, and supplies.
Some people really need to be thankful for what they get and quit thinking they are getting screwed because there is probably someone somewhere still getting an even worse deal.
We had a great spread. Yams, mashed potatoes, scalloped potatoes, green beans, pineapple nut jello salad, salad, homemade rolls, potato balls, potato salad, coleslaw, cupcakes, cheesecake brownies, chocolate chip cookies, homemade jam, etc. It was delicious. All it takes is a little effort and there was no b*tching allowed. ;)

Sky Chef? I heard that PHX crew room had Boston Market brought in for the crews and ramp.....Where was Boston Market in PHL?

Hmmm, wouldn't know about that. We found long lines at all of the food joints on B concourse. Saw several crewmwmbers with carry out trays. We asked two West crews for info on where to go and the closest we got to an answer was "upstairs". Another crew told us they didn't have time to show us or give us directions. Guess an "East" crew isn't welcome out "West" yet.

Okay, here is my Philly story.

Started my trip out fine on the 24. Last leg PhL-Buf, the only leg of my trip that went through Philly.

We pre boarded a parapalegic passenger who had her own electric wheelchair that she gate checked. She boarded via a straightback with agents help. She boarded first. We then boarded a full flight to Buf. We then waited for about 30 minutes for the bags to be loaded. Which is fine and something expected in Philly. So far pretty typical, right? We get to Buf, the pax exit the aircraft, and we are waiting for the wheelchair to be brought up. Guess what? No wheelchair. This pax was traveling alone on Christmas Eve. She was going to spend Christmas with her father who dying in a hospital. When the agent told her that her wheelchair was never loaded she began to sob. She was defeated. For the first time in a very long time she was reminded that she was paralyzed (sp), thanks to USAirWays. I have seen many things since I have been flying. But, this is the most embarrassed I have ever been by the ineptitude of a Philly employee. I wish the person who so casual about not putting her wheelchair on could have seen the consequences of his/her actions.
That is the problem with Philly, they don't care, and they never will. You could pay them 50,000 a year and it would not be enoough. Forgive me if I offend the 5 or 6 people in Philly who do care. In my opinion, in order for this new LCC to be successful, they should scrap Philly. Get rid of it just like they dumped Pittsburgh. Move it all down south or put it back in Pitt. In my opinion, as long as Philly is the Main Hub, UsAirways will never ever be what it should be.....
Thanks for letting me rant......

Bob,

Of course you are right. I am just angry and upset and was on a full tilt rant. Philly has some great people working there. Just because I haven't seen them doesn't mean they don't exist.
I do not feel comfortable sharing anymore detailed info regarding the outcome of the situation, as I feel it would be a violation to the passenger.

It is like the song in the Sound of Music;;;;;;

How do solve a problem like Maria (insert Philly).

PHX clearly has more experience in actually treating employees like human being instead of liabilities. PHL management probably has no real experience in doing something like being civil. So cut them a break this year. It takes time to teach old dogs new tricks.

Not complaining so don't throw rocks at me BUT there was only ham served which made the numerous Jews and Muslims kinda sad. :( An alternative meal was given which, I believe, was a gift card for Paradise Bakery in the terminal. Wish they would have provided some turkey. My only complaint being that he food was not Kosher and Halal. :cop:

Didn't bother me, personally, as I ate that pig up being the pig-eating Catholic that I am! Just don't like seeing my Jewish and Muslim friends excluded. Should have asked them for their portions!!!

I'm with you on this one. We made the same mistake at the United Way Campaign kickoff event. We had hotdogs and none of them were beef or turkey. No complaints, but it did show a lack of planning and regard. Won't make the same mistake next time.

OH please!!! This sounds like something out of the Enquirer, or Star magazine....or a HallMark special.

Maybe, but aren't you glad that it did not happen to you? Who Knows? Someday maybe it will.

SKD,

Reading your account of this BUF passenger saddens me deeply to know that someone on the ground couldn't put this person's wheelchair on the flight. I would hope mgmt would do an investigation of this incident. For that matter, mgmt better hope this passenger doesn't talk to a lawyer, as I could see some bad press from a lawsuit coming out of this.

HP always has "loaner" wheelchairs in case this happens (and it sometimes does) and offers profuse apologies. Then when the wheelchair comes in it is quickly sent to where the person is staying.

On the 24th?
What flight?
Mainline?
I worked double shifts the 24th and 25th but heard nothing about a elec. whchr being left behind.
Though it's no excuse, if it was a pm flight, night shift is 99% new hires (less than 10 months) and they have recieved little to no trainning other than the class room they get the first week. They have no leadership because their lead agents came from their hire class too!
A "Duty Manager" told me that the answer to this is numbers. That's why PHL is 150 agents over staffed on the ramp.
The local bosses think that 4 agents who don't know what they are doing is equal to 3 who do....go figure.
The low level managers are short handed, ruled by fear from upper management, and not given the tools to do their job. (just like the agents!)
Suha, Davis, and their "Duty Managers" are failures at running PHL and need to be replaced before anything will change.

I left BOS on the 6:10 am flight X- Mass day for PIT. Flight got in 10 or so min. early, with checked bags spinning around the belt when we got downstairs. No time lost. Came back to BOS today on the 1:20. Same story. No hassle at all. WOW!
