Was it cut off? Or is it possible that the lock got caught in one of the many mechanical devices (belts) that it passes through thus tearing off the zipper as well as the lock?

Just a thought.
It was clear it was cut. A nice even cut. No way was it ripped off. TSA looked mortified when they saw it.

Everyone who works in PHL needs to look at themselves in the mirror and look to the past before you cast the blame for all the problems on the 'new class of people' who work at PHL.

Baggage theft has always happened. Your boys Tony A and Chandlee have lobbied to protect the jobs of quite a few of the old timers caught doing some illegal deeds.

Look back at all of the deals that you guys used to cut in the Bag Chute. Remember the guy who was stealing the golf clubs? Yeah the union fought to save his lives, sadly he was not fired for stealing, rather they got in for destroying company property when he smashed the camera they installed to watch him.

You folks in PHL are really pathetic. You elected thugs to run your union, you cut deals that management knows about then you #### when they cut staff, then when all else fails you blame all of the new employees for all of the problems.

I know that some of the problems are in fact the new breed of workers that are coming in, but you guys ran the ramp into the rathole that it is, and now you have to live with it.

Well, I'm a true believer in self-policing. Maybe if those people in PHL who pull this silliness were ostracized by those whom object to such behavior, it might send a message to the guilty that sooner or later when they get caught they won't receive any help or sympathy.

Poverty = theft

not always , but desperate people do desperate things ...

Dear us airways , i'm still working on my "The individual does not have a moral obligation to an immoral company " article , i plan to publish it here at the start of December , it's sort of robin hood themed in nature , i want it to be the best work i've ever done ... Sure would be nice if i didn't have to go all dark side out of bittness and hate because i and my fellow west workers don't have anything even close to a decent pay .... But hey , when i DO go darkside your gonna feel the force ...

Now go steal a laptop so you can type it up at work!

haha notice that nowhere have i ever advocated theft , nor will i ever do so . i simply offered a reason as to why people steal in my reply . i will never advocate theft ... Althou i may make attempts to ratonalize it ( i mean the behavior behind it ).

Edit :Furthermore , let me make it explicit that i myself will never steal , nor have i ever stolen anything from a passnger or this company in the time i've been employed here .

Unions reflect the type of management they must deal with.

Very true and PHL has seen it shares of winners in mangement from Weitz to Sing to Moore to ever other loser who had 36 credits at a community college.

That's too funny, and it's right on the mark as well.

You don't need further education to run a station, but you do need common sense and the desire to show up to solve problems, even when it's not your scheduled shift.

Delegating responsibility is fine, but every once in a while it's good to show up and take the reins of the operation, lest one forget how it's supposed to run.
