PHL bag issue

I am so furious right now. My husband just returned from a business trip to find his bag had been broken into. He checked his bag in PHL at the ticket counter and had his TSA lock on it. When he retrieved his bag in DEN, not only had the lock been cut off, but the whole zipper had been cut. There was no TSA sticker or note in the bag saying they had searched it, so we are wondering, who cut his lock off his bag????? Someone gained access to his personal items. Every week he checks his bag and they always put a TSA marking in the bag or on the bag when they open the lock, but not this time. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this? We are filing a claim with USAirways and TSA. Hopefully something will come out of it.

So, as it ends up, TSA was not the one who broke into my husbands bag. Someone between TSA and DEN baggage claim cut the bag open. There is now an investigation. WARNING!! Always lock your bag, even if it has gate valet on it and report any cutting of locks immediately. As we were told, there has been issues between the PHL police dept and some baggage handlers. USAirways is replacing his suitcase if it is unable to be repaired. FYI, his suitcase did look just like a crew bag being a black travelpro.

Yes we know your frustration...we senior employees have been saying it for years.....PHL is a hole---period....there is no reason for US to be sending all northeast connecting traffic through that hole but managements answer to that is to cut even more service from northeast cities and push even more wary customers through the nightmare experience....

So all I can say is sorry...we feel your pain---but our management is too stupid to see the big picture here.......continue to write/complain/kick and scream----file complaints with the DOT---maybe someone/someday/somewhere--in management will have a light bulb go off and see the real problem with US Airways----

Oh give it up!! It's tiring listening to your "senior employee" incessant rhetoric about the hub that pays your salary and is the key element in the financial success of your employer . If you hate US go elsewhere. Oh, I forgot PIT doesn't have anywhere else to go to. Baggage theft is rampant in most major airports and there have been recent press articles about such occurrences at EWR, SEA and LAX. Further, what does the airport have to do with the theft? Very likely it's your own employees who have done the deed and in fact you discount the possibility that the theft was done at DEN. PIT doesn't have as many problems as PHL because it is miniscule in comparison and always will be, whether or not it Hubs US Airways. But you continually preach your rant of dehubbing PHL and moving it back to PIT without any obvious understanding or strategy as to how US would then avoid another bankruptcy in that money loosing environment. Again, give it up and instead try to contribute something constructive once in awhile.

PIT has senior employees who know their job and respect their customers.

Too bad the Kids in the Sandbox have no respect for either job knowledge or customers.

Maybe that is why you are tired of hearing about people expecting you to do better.

Lildutchgrl,

Sorry to hear about your husband's bag. It's a shame that certain people don't respect the property of others.

If it was US employees that went through his bag without a reason, maybe the company should remind employees what is expected when it comes to baggage handling. It would go a long way toward improving the operation in PHL and elsewhere.

How is the Dream Team of 14 directors doing fixing PHL anyway?

A 'resounding success' on the level of the SHARES Migration?

That would be no surprise as the same people are involved in both.

Prince I agree with everything you say but my bet is TSA did it.

It never used to be this bad .......YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

I won't deny that it's possible, but if it had a TSA approved lock on it, then there really wasn't any reason to cut the lock and the zipper off.

In the time I have worked in PIT, I have never once seen someone go through a passengers bag without 1) a very good reason, and 2) a witness to what they were doing. I've seen pretty much every sort of device that will make a vibration inside of a bag, which is the number one reason to open one in order to determine what it is and how to turn it off. Electric razors, kids' toys and adult items top the list (thank the maker for latex gloves!)

So, for all of the passengers out there who have such items in your baggage, here's a useful set of suggestions: If it has batteries, take them out; If it has a safety switch to keep it from turning on in your bag, use it; If you really don't need to take it on your trip, leave it home; If you are unsure if you need it or not, you probably don't; If your bag is opened or damaged when you get it back, file a claim immediately and take an inventory of your bag to see if anything is missing or not; If something is very valuable, take it in your carry-on bag (DON"T CHECK LAPTOP PC's, GRANDMA's JEWELRY, YOUR YOUNGEST CHILD, et cetera).

I really dont think you understand the situation here.He is saying he is sorry. As am I,too the person who had this dot to there baggage. No matter what city you call a hub,if you employ the class of workers that we have hired in PHL you will have this problem. If you dont understand this, come on up at we will give you the tour, its not a pretty site. Its not only some of our people, its the contract workers we hire. Its been proven, weve seen em fired and convicted.

And yes coach,TSA here is the same caliber of people, but with authority...scarry to say the least.

And in all the stations where I worked, when an overpacked bag opened up, I always had a witness to verify that EVERYTHING was put back in!!! Had to CYA.

the lock been cut off, but the whole zipper had been cut. There was no TSA sticker or note in the bag saying they had searched it, so we are wondering, who cut his lock off his bag?????

Was it cut off? Or is it possible that the lock got caught in one of the many mechanical devices (belts) that it passes through thus tearing off the zipper as well as the lock?

Just a thought.

Let me guess. PIT would be the answer. PHL is a mess but it is our mess!
