Once The Best, Now The Worst

It seems like just yesterday that US was "the flagship carrier" with clearly the best premium service in the industry. Today, I received my copy of Conde Nast, and here are the results of this years "Premium Service Poll":

1. Alaska Airlines
2. Continental Airlines
3. Hawaiian Airlines
4. American Airlines
5. Northwest Airlines
6. United Airlines
7. Delta Airlines
8. Aloha
9. AirTran Airways
10. US Airways

They couldn't even beat AirTran's business class!!! Pathetic!!!

On a side note, Envoy class is ranked as the 9th best Trans-Atlantic business class product. Nothing to write home about, but it is a testment to how good the product used to be to think that they are still top 10... you can only degrade something so much!

I have a feeling that now US is run by people with the LCC mentality, they will never be a true premium carrier again. The first sign of this was the removal of the power ports. Any thoughts?

Removal of the powerports hits a major nerve! I bought the adaptor..so that I could watch a movie, work on my laptop, etc. I'll fly JetBlue so that I can at least watch what my plane is doing on live tv!

I don't mean to criticize, but US was always a LCC with top heavy management. They never figured out how to make money...all they ever knew was how to take money...from their frontline. Not good business.

The two or three screws and a cannon plug, the only mtc issue was people ripping the covers off and kids shoving things into them.

Four allen head screws and a clip connection, very poor design!! Should have never accepted it in the first place, but with U's crack managment team I have seen worse!! They hired a consulant before purchasing the seats from the vendor and they were OK'd.

We have never even scored in the top of anything with Conde Nest. That's why I always called them Conde Worst. I'm surprised we made it in the top 10.

Respectfuly I disagree that the new management has an LCC mentality. I've been told that those power ports are ungodly MTC issue plus HP doesn't have them. So if you take the emotion out for a second removing them is really the only logical business decision.

SKY HIGH states: Agreed. AND THE SIMPLE "FACT" THAT NO ONE USED THEM. I think I've seen like two to three passengers in the past FIVE YEARS with the necessary "purchased" attachment to use these ports.

A point or two to ponder: what carrier is the most profitable in the US? They are NOT on this list.
How many of those on the list are/have been bankrupt?????
I am hoping that the new USAirways makes one important list--that of one of the most profitable airlines in this country.

If you're taking about SW, then they shoudln't be on this list, as it's a ranking of premium services. It does not surprise me that AA and CO are up there, and Hawaiian is probably there because of their brand new 767's and the spruced up biz class (just like US's Envoy when the A330's were introduced). Their DC-10 biz class was certainly not worthy of this list a few years ago.

Since there is some question as to why WN isn't on the list, the point was made, they aren't a premium carrier. There is a secondary list with the best single class service, and the results were as follows:

1. JetBlue
2. Midwest
3. Song
4. Frontier
5. Horizon
6. Independence
7. Southwest
8. Ted
9. ExpressJet
10. ATA

Note that JetBlue, Midwest, and Song all scored better than any of the "premium carriers," even without their first class, food offerings, etc.

When I hook my adapter up, the whole thing is hidden against my right thigh and not visible to anyone. You might see the cord in the back of the computer, but not without getting very low and close to it.

I have seen MANY people around me using the things in the past few years. The electronics stores in the airport, e.g. the Palm store at PHL sells quite a few of them too. I guess people buy them for decorative purposes.

SKY HIGH states; UH, NO.
IN COACH, THE POWER PORT IS AT THE END OF THE "ARMREST". I CAN "SEE ANYTHING CONNECTED FROM THERE". AND, NO. THEY ARE NOT USED BY MANY PEOPLE. I STILL REMEMBER ASKING THE FIRST PERSON WHERE THEY GOT THEIR ADAPTER WHEN I "SAW IT". AND IN THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS, I'VE FLOWN A FEW THOUSAND FLIGHTS, YOU?
I GUESS PEOPLE HANG OUT IN ELECTRONIC STORES "WATCHING" PEOPLE BUY ADAPTERS.

Why are you shouting and snide? I should be able to disagree without making you angry.

The ports in FC are on the inside of the center armrest and well out of sight unless the observer gets intimate with the passenger.
