Pilots keep Delta-NWA merger talks alive
Union leaders continue seniority negotiations, say sources - a sign that the merger process could resume.

ATLANTA (AP) -- Pilot union leaders at Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines were meeting Wednesday in Washington, a hopeful sign that formal negotiations over integrating seniority lists to facilitate a combination of the two carriers could soon resume, three people familiar with the discussions told The Associated Press.

The people, who asked not to be named because of the sensitivity of the situation, said the meetings included top leaders of the two unions, but not their full negotiating teams.

Prior to the meetings that started Tuesday in Washington, the two sides had not met since Feb. 21, the three people said.

Several people familiar with the discussions have said the pieces of a deal that would create the world's largest airline are in place, held up only by the lack of a seniority agreement between the pilots at each carrier.

Unlike prior airline deals, Atlanta-based Delta and Eagan, Minn.-based Northwest have tried to get their pilots to work out their own integration in advance of any airline combination announcement. Seniority is a major issue for pilots because it determines who gets desirable - and higher-paying - planes, routes, and schedules.

Northwest's pilots' union has said seniority issues must be addressed if they're going to agree to a merger. Delta executives have said they will only agree to a combination with another carrier if, among other things, the seniority of their employees is protected.

Put on your raincoats...here comes the drivel.......

I wish this thing would die a sudden death already...

Suppose it DOES happen...are you going to continue to have a bad attitude about it or are you going to try to make it work in your life?
I know the choice I've made and as easy as it is to not want to get involved in a merger and all that goes with it, I'm going to TRY to make the best of it. I suggest that for others too...why be miserable? Now, if it is officially called off, then I can understand some celebrating. But until then...why have a bad 'tude. Besides, if you're a pilot, you're going to see a lot more $$$...right?

If this thing goes forward,..........."buckle your seat belts" will take on a whole new meaning , starting first with "all things Minnesota" !!!!!!!!!

The "after effects"(additional M+A's) will ROCK this Industry like nothing any of us has Ever seen Before.

Only 911 will have been more traumatic !

De-regulation(1978) will seem like a quiet sunday afternoon in "Nowheresville Georgia" !

The flip side(NO DEALS) will be the best thing that Ever happened to BIG RED !!!!!

Kind of dramatic, aren't you? I mean, let's face it, in the end, it's still just a job.

The word "melodramatic" comes to my mind for some reason.

I give, is it because the SMELL?

Are you suggesting that WN is afraid of NW?

##################################################################

"Luv2",

NO....not Afraid,.......But SMART enough to give NW a WIDE BERTH in MSP, same as ATL.

One difference(for WN) was that they NEVER ATTEMPTED to ever GO into MSP.

No bias there.... what about the good 'tude you were promoting?

Please deconstruct the post and tell me why accepting change shows bias or a bad attitude? I was merely pointing out that if it happens, each employee has a choice to try to make it work or be miserable., or perhaps move on. That's pretty much the way most of life works.
If you're referring to the pilot reference, that is based on all the news reporting up to this point which report pilots stand to gain pay increases (esp. NW pilots) and equity in the merged company.
