The big problem is that China and India are industrializing and the demand for oil in both countries has skyrocketed,

Invade every country that has a significant supply of crude, annex them to the US, and prohibit "exports."

Or cream every country off the map that is demanding oil. Thus lowering the demand and reducing cost. :D

When is the last time this country built a refinery? Oil is also high because we don’t have the refinery’s to make enough gas.

Just a little tid bit… I bet bush down loads oil prices like people down load porn.

The Saudi Royal Family and the Bush Family have very close ties that have gone on for many years.

You would think he could ask them for a little relief by increasing production somewhat??

Maybe he could call in that little favor granted immediately after 9-11......the one where all the Saudi Royal family members and relations were provided many aircraft to flee the country.......when there was a nation wide aviation stand-down  ???

Don't be so innocent. The white house can do something.....but won't

No offense to anyone but I'm not in favor of asking the arabs for a damn thing. IMO conservation is a more practical approach at least for most fuels. Example, you ever notice who's driving these gas hog SUVs. Half are soccer moms. Why? Because they can. Most of the people that own these things don't need them they just want them. They have no practical. How many people do you know that own SUVs go four wheeling in them? Bottom line is this, I don't have a problem with people driving these things but I do think they should pay more to operate them.
Conservation my friend. And in the mean time, drain every drop of oil in the middle east till there is no more. Then tap into our own for us.

actually the relationship between the U.S. and Saudi was initiated by Roosevelt during WWII. During the Clinton Admin, we built bases in Saudi (construction provided by the Bin Laden Group). During the Bush admin, we abandoned them. If Bush were so tight with the saudi's, i'd think we'd still have troops based there.

Actually, in light of the "pain" (to use one of USA320's favorite words) being inflicted on US Airways by high fuel costs, I find it terribly ironic that Seth's GoFares-mobile was a big yellow gas-guzzling Hummer.

I hate that Corner Bakery on 19th Street... overpriced and bad service... if it weren't for the blizzard that hit one March morning, I'd never have eaten there.

Petrol prices in the UK are above 4.50 US a US gallon, about 5 USD I think (very high taxation on gasoline)

Doesn't seem to have brought the economy to a halt, but not many SUVs on the road

There are indications that the economy is starting to be effected by high energy cost. Consumer price index continues to climb, interest rates continue to climb, cost of medical care and supplies, food you name it, the cost is rising. Heck, even airfares have gone up.
