On Thursday night, on KSTP (channel 5),at 10:00pm the news team is doing an expose' on Northwest wasting money to send reservation agents and other lackies to the Mexican Riveira. I know a woman who went with her son(go figure). Last year she made "platinum" in sales and got a king deluxe balcony room on a cruise ship. NW rented the entire Norwegian cruise ship! It's good to be king!

MAYBE NEXT TIME NW WASTES MONEY RENTING CRUISE SHIPS, THEY WILL GET A BETTER RATE BY SELLING CRUISES.

OR MAYBE THEY WON'T PAY NEXT TIME THEY RENT A SHIP....HELL THEY DON'T PAY THEIR HOTEL BILLS.

DOESN'T NW HAVE ENOUGH SINKING SHIPS?

A 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS investigation on Northwest Airlines is already causing controversy among the struggling companies’ employees, even though it is scheduled to be broadcast tonight.

Only 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS’ cameras captured exclusive footage as the bankrupt company treated some workers to an all-inclusive trip to Mexico.

The video shows the airlines top producing reservation agents being treated to such activities as snorkeling and lavish dinners.

Northwest defends the trips, saying the money is well-spent and the incentive trip generated $53 million last year for the airlines.

Tonight at 10 p.m., you’ll see more of our exclusive footage, and hear from both reservations agents – and Northwest management.

Why is this a big deal? Rewarding poeple who generate income is a pretty standard way of incentivising poeple to generate even more income. It must have been a really slow news day if something this common is fodder for an evening news story. If providing these incentives drives revenue over and above the cost of the incentives, then it makes good business sense. I would hope the news story at least makes mention of this obvious fact.

The local news here never ceases to amaze how they can overdramatize very trivial items.
