What's new

No Mo' ObamaPhones !

Like I said, I'll be all for the "Didn't earn it's", having cellphone service as soon as I can get a tax break for mine..........the "Didn't earn it's", aren't the only ones that have emergency situations or are looking for jobs !

Why, how delightfully Randian of you! What a great place society would be w/o so many useless eaters!

Maybe we can keep going and (re)introduce some Eugenics as well?

Hey Maggie Sanger had it right......progressive icon she was...

Stop subsidies for votes would be a start.

Hey! I've got a truly radical idea here! How about we all stop paying people for them to just exist? We could just breed thousands/millions of rabbits for that amusing BS...witha lot less crime and trouble? How about a common and sensible demand come forth for them to do something/ANYthing actually useful to society?....IE: You don't work = You don't eat....? 🙂

On welfare or food stamps, get a broom and sweep your local streets.............OH! and don't forget to report to your local drug testing center !

Sure you say that here, but God forbid the government try to reintroduce something like a WPA program, or other mechanism to get people back to work...

Thought they did under Clinton and Obama wiped it away.

I still do not understand the idea about being willing to support a land line which is this day and age seems to be a waste as opposed to a cell phone which for all practical purposes cost the same.

Good luck with that.
We now have engrained a society that will never work.
Simplistic application might be "don't work=don't eat" but then murder and mayhem becomes cheaper to eat than work, specifically if there are no jobs that will replace the income of welfare. We are in a mess that we created and there are no easy solutions.
If you propose to "don't work=don't eat" as a final end all solution, then you might want to get in your bunker and wait for anarchy.
It's a cummmin!

As pointed out emergencies do happen in situations where other may not be available or willing to help.

Are you sure because you looked or are you sure because it fits your POV?

I looked and the difference is small enough that depending on where you live and what the taxes/competition is like the difference may be non-existent.

I can get a free phone from sprint and their base plan for 200 min is $30 a month. AT@T will give me a basic land line for $25 a month.

These prices are for TX so your mileage may vary.

A free phone for $30 a month....that's a novel idea.

I've been thinking the same thing. In fact, I'd say if we're gonna subsidize one, then the cell phone is the better value of the two.

P.S. Who still has a landline, anyway?!

Maybe close to the same cost as a consumer, but nowhere near the same operating cost.

Infrastructure for landlines is pretty much already a sunk cost. You'd really have to work at saturating a landline switch to the point that it needs to be upgraded or expanded.

That's not the case with mobile -- when a tower starts getting saturated, (not too difficult, either) the carrier has to up its capacity for the paying customers. Towers can't distinguish between a welfare phone and a full service phone (unless you decide to relegate welfare phones to 2G only...).

What does the operating cost have to do with the consumer in this situation?

Cell signals are easier to capture for that new NSA site out in Utah.

Every single one of us benefits from government subsidizing, to some degree, and in some way, nearly everything.

All of us

Those with the most, and who pay the most, also receive the most benefit

I guess we should all report to the local drug testing center, huh?

Civil rights, and more importantly, individual freedom only apply tu "us", not "them".

Yet More evidence that the radical right and present day republicans haven't a dickie bird of an idea what conservatism is.

Well then, you can keep on paying for subsidies until, as Margaret Thatcher so eloquently stated.......
“The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”
