I HAVE E-MAILED JERRY GLASS ABOUT THE REMOVAL OF THE ITD/DOMESTIC FENCE. HE TOLD ME THAT IT WAS ASKED TO BE ROMOVED LAST YEAR BUT AFA DID NOT AGREE TO IT. HE SAID THAT MOVING FOWARD THE COMPANY NEEDS TO RUN A MORE EFICCIENT OPERATION AND REMOVAL OF THE FENCE IS ONE OF THE ITEMS AIRWAYS NEEDS.
I AGREE 100% WITH THE FENCE BEING BROUGHT DOWN. I AM A SPANISH LODO, SO WHY I F I WORK A FLT TO SJU ON THE A330, I CAN'T WORK A FLT TO MAD. SAME GOES FOR NON- LODO F/A'S. IF THEY ARE QUALIFIED ON THE A/C PUT THEM ON THERE. SOME MAY ARGUE THAT WE THEN HAVE TO TRAIN PEOPLE. ON WHAT? THE SERVICE ON TA HAS DWINDELED TO ALMOST NOTHING. YOU SELL LIQUOR AND HEAD SETS LIKE ON DOMESTIC AND IF YOU NOTICED IN OUR NEW INTERNATIONAL MANUAL THEY INCLUDED ALL DEST'S. CARRIBEAN ,CANADA, AND EUROPE. IF PEOPLE ARE WORRIED ABOUT HOW TO FILL OUT INTL FORMS . ITS ALL IN THE MANUAL.
ALSO ONOTHER REASON WHY IT SHOULD GO IS STAFFING. IF A FLT TO FCO CANCELS DUE TO SICK CALLS OR RETURNES FOR SOME REASON LIKE WHAT JUST HAPPENED A FEW WEEKS AGO. THEN WHY NOT USE A DOMESTIC RESERVE TO COVER THE FLT. I MEAN WE HAVE OPR'S . I AM SURE THEY WOULD LOVE TO GO TO FCO. WE ARE AL F/A'S . WE ALL WERE THE SAME UNIFORM AND WE ALL KNOW OUR JOBS. HAVING " DIVISION IS REDICULOUS IN THIS DAY AND AGE. IT DOESEN'T WORK. <_<

If that is part of the productivity they are asking for give it to them.
As long as there is no hourly wage reduction or job reductions.

Pitbull, I know you are not going to agree with that, but if that is part of US surviving bring the wall down.

US Airways is one of the last with the seperate divisions.

If those senior mamas don't like it, the can go to MAA.

PITTBUL SAYS THAT WHO EVER SAID THAT AFA DID NOT AGREE TO THE FENCE WAS A LIAR. WELL TELL THAT TO J.GLASS CAUSE HE IS THE ONE WHO TOLD ME. AND ALSO A AFA REP WHO I WILL NOT MENTION NAMES TOLD ME THE SAME THING. HE TOLD ME THAT OUR AFA MEC PEOPLE DON'T WANT THE FENCE DOWN BECAUSE THEY WILL LOSE OUT ON THEIR $6.00 AN HR PAY. AND AS FOR CAROL AUSTIN , SHE TOLD ME HERSELF THAT SHE DOES NOT WANT THE FENCE TO BE REMOVED.

 U Need to GET REAL! Do u have a clue as to what would happen if the fence came down?? Obviously, your delusional. Your LODO senority would continue to keep you flying san juan, santo domingo turns.. PLAIN AND SIMPLE - you would never see MADRID. Furthermore, every flight attendant( other than those with 30 plus years) would loose significant senority- including vacation. THOSE MAMAs and PAPAs arent ging anywhere. BTW, PLEASE stop with the ageism..it's just as bad as sexism and racism. Just because you get older doesnt mean your no longer valuable or deserve to work. You'll get old some day too!
MANY of us, and I will be the ring leader, MARK MY WORDS, will fight to the wall to NEVER LET THE FENCE DOWN. I have 24 years and now fly domestic and LOVE IT. I'll be damned i'm going to watch my senority, and EVERYBODY junior to me, loose it over your desire to fly a MADRID trip once a millenium!!! As for Jerry Glass, he's a UNION BUSTER- plain and simple. So stop quoting mgmt..especially him. He could care less about silly stewards and stewardess. As far as US mgmt is concerned we should all be making minimum wage and working 5 days a week!!!! WITH NO LODO PAY!!!! WAKE UP!!!

ITS NOT ABOUT BEING A LODO . ITS ABOUT EFICCIENCY. IT DOESENT MAKE SENSE TO HAVE IT. I DON'T CARE IF I DON'T GO TO MAD. BEEN THERE DONE THAT . HELD A BLOCK ON IT FOR A WHOLE YEAR LAST YEAR. AND I WILL QUOTE MANAGEMENT WHEN EVER I PLEASE IF IT MAKES SENSE. PEOPLE LIKE YOU NEED TO WAKE UP. I DON'T CARE IF YOU HAVE 24 OR 4 YEARS . TIMES ARE CHANGING AND WE NEED TO ADAPT TO IT PERIOD. DON'T LIKE IT . THERE IS THE AIRCRAFT DOOR. THE FENCE MUST COME DOWN AND I BET YOU IT WILL NAUBUS.

etops, you need to learn internet ettiquite, when you type in capitals it is annoying and it means you are screaming at people or I guess you might have a vision problem, whichever it is, please stop typing in capitals!

I agree that the fence should be brought down and am really hard-pressed to think of an argument in favor of the fence in terms of system efficiency. If ever there was an argument against the wall, the MCO debacle was it. The current two-sided system is in place only for the benefit of senior flight attendants, yet from an operations standpoint it is a disaster. The senior flight attendants can still bid on transoceanic trips and stand an excellent chance of getting them. But I find it unconscionable that when the company was unable to staff an A/C with quick-call flight attendants in International that they had to charter a plane and call in a crew from CLT and have our valued customers wait additional hours because of a silly and costly work rule.

For the record....it's the company that refuses or is not interested in removal of the ITD fence. They sight service integrity and international procedures.
For those of you that wish the ITD fence to come down I suggest you research all of the ramifications such as a MAJOR furlough!
I would be willing to entertain something like United has in which if all the International Reserves are used and trips remain, scheduling can go into the Domestic Reserve book to assign trips.
Be careful what you ask for ebecause you might get it. F/A's look at seniority in terms of people over them but really it's a two way street and you can't forget the people under you or lack of.

[/QUOTE]

What?? Where is the logic with that one? The same # of positions and the same # of flights DO NOT equate to a furlough. The fence has and will continue to create problems with the ITD division ie....staffing, continous training, supplemental bids ( which continually violate seniority with vacation bidding), etc..... There cannot be valid proof that the company is saving $$$ with the fence in place.

I understand the new business plan will expand flying and could add more mainline aircraft.

Management desires work rule changes to increase revenue with the additional flying (with no additional employees) and to lower the labor expense as a percentage of revenue.

In addition, I understand the plan involves no W-2 cuts.

Chip

Funny Chip, were you at the CCY Marriot to attend this meeting?

Also Deep Throat told me that don't expect much to come out of this meeting as Siegel does not have a plan to present.

But Deep Throat also told me that they bonus checks and party was fun.

It seems to me that the new business plan cannot involve W-2 cuts or anything but growth, because it sure strikes me that the unions will hold their ground on both.

Or, to paraphrase "Nothing is on the table. Nothing."

Even this has now changed at UA. We went from a completely separate domestic / international operation, to a 'hybrid' with our 1996 contract. One feature of that reserve system was as you describe. However with our concessionary agreement this past spring, there are no longer separate domestic and international reserves, just one reserve pool from which they make assignments in time accrued order.
