I was driving down I-95 S this morning and noticed a SW tail sticking up over the private jet area and decided to look at it more closely, as charter planes are not usually kept this far back. Upon driving the ring road, I found this plane with the engines, wheels, and intakes all covered with what looks like trashbags, and a portion of the left wing also covered with the black material and tape and wire. Based on how this area was set up, with all the highway dividers set up around the perimeter, it looks like this plane has been here for some time. Also, the "trash bag"material that is covering up the right engine has become teathered and frayed on the front of the nacele. If this plane has been here for some time, why couldn't they install form fitting intake and exhaust covers to both CFM engines.

What is the story here with this plane.

As an aside, there was a nice BBJ with tail number N315TS parked on the appron outside of the private hanger. Bon Jovi is in Philly tonight, could this be his plane?

Also a DL 763 in the charter area as well with stairs waiting for its passengers.

About ten tears ago Bon Jovi was in my neck of the woods for a show. Back then he had a BAC-111 painted gold with the words BON JOVI painted on the fuselage. A crewman,I guess the pilot, came into our shop one night and asked if we could 'Fix the plane". We had a good laugh and told him to check back when day shift comes in. Some of those guys are old Hawkers (MOWHAWK AIRLINES). Plane sat for a few days, needed a starter/generator I think. Funny the band is due back in town soon, ticket prices are like 100 to 200 bucks. What ever they fly in now must be SWEET.

Googled the tail number, here is one of the hits:http://www.flickr.com/photos/runway27r/5321093429/

damage in pushpack mishap. Probably more info ovr at airliners.net.

Any ideas why this AC has not been repaired it is a 700 and I am sure it could be used.

My guess is they are waiting for Boeing to fabricate the parts they know they need for the repair. Boeing is pretty busy these days just trying to keep up with their delivery schedule.

Does SWA outsource their pushbacks in PHL?

Unlikely. They don't outsource any of their large airports as far as I know of.
No outsourcing push backs. Ramper's job everywhere. With the exception of DAL where I think MX still pushes back. Been while since I have been there maybe has changed by now. Rumor has it the Push Back Driver has been relieved of his WN ID badge. Finally I have heard that the BOEING AOG team is on the job there doing their thing to get it back in service.

I have noticed that SWA seems to only use one wing walker during their pushbacks at PHL. I would assume that this is an acceptable company practice system wide. The one thing that catches my attention here, is that the wing walker is just about always on the side visible to the pushback driver leaving the blind-side uncovered. If I were driving, I would insist that the walker be keeping an eye on the side I can't see. This may have been the case in this situation.

SWA had to build a hanger to repair this bird. Boeing is fabricating the wing due to serious damage. I has been out of service since Dec 18,2009.

I believe this plane is now back in service. Flew in from Vegas 2 weeks ago, and saw a SW plane taxing with the same "bags fly here for free logo" around the LAS ramp. Then when landing in PHL, did not see the plane in the corner where it had been.

Also, i think your timing is somewhat off, as there are pictures of this plane airborne on A.net as late as October 31, 2010

The accident happened on DEC 18, 2010 that is after Oct 31. If the accident was Dec 18, 2010 and you saw a photo of the same AC flight on Oct 31, 2010 then that was before the incident. I spoke with the ramp supervisor who is moving the AC from the parked position to the newly built hangar for repairs so my comment is not OFF. Alot of the SWA AC have the BAGS FLY FREE HERE painted just above the FWD cargo door.
