Isn't that lovely! She can show her face in BOS but not in PHL. Isn't she based in PHL? Can she not handle the cold wintertime air in PHL? Who is this lady behind the curtain?

Didn't you hear? Carol claims she was not invited to the last PHL AFA meeting. Where the heck was my invitation? I got about 5 days notice but Carol seems to want a formal invitation with trumpets and gold etching. For God sakes Carol, you can't even show up to your own council meeting as a member and then have to have a person FORCE you to come to PHL. It was not voluntary Carol is being dragged back in front of the membership kicking and screaming. It funny to see the curtain finally come down!

I believe the demand to see Carol was initiated at the last PHL council meeting. A BOS meeting would pre-date the next PHL meeting, would it not?

I don't believe Carol was responsible for the current reserve system so please restrain yourself.

She didn't really exist UNTIL today....

Out of curiousity, what is it you want from Carol?

To magically change the reserve system?

To oversee reserve blocks?

I know Carol and while I don't always agree with how she approaches contracts (she tends to go for money while sacrificing work rules) she is a very knowledgeable person and a very nice lady.

UsAirways f/a's have lost some of our best minds to retirement. Those previous work rules weren't just given to flight attendants, they were hard won. We should take care to respect the talent that we have, and not attempt to destroy it. This would fall right into the company's lap.

Keep in mind that Carol is not responsible for the travesty of a contract that we have. It was bankruptcy forced. The union did not want to submit it to membership but the then US insisted. With a gun to our heads it was ratified, and not only are we all very sorry, but so is the rest of the industry. We'll wonder forever what would have happened if it was never ratified. I can tell you that I believe that we would have been better off staying with the court ordered 21% pay cut, but at the time we didn't know that.

If you really feel that you have superior knowledge and skill, then I suggest that you put yourself forward to the union and get involved. Don't just go to a meeting and harass a woman who has spent years in service of flight attendants.

A bk judge can only enforce changes while a company is in bk, the affected employees are free to exercise their rights after a company exits bk if a company tries to continue those changes.

Like the pilots, the flight attendants had no reason to vote in a whole new contract/whatever under such conditions. ALPA and AFA have a lot to answer for over this very issue.

2clippedwings adds: I would prefer not to see anyone personally attacked but do insist on accountability.
As a reserve, I want to see what the negotiators' intent and goals are for achieving an equitable reserve contract section?
I want the negotiators to hear what the reserves are saying and to represent the reserves (as well as the blockholders/lineholders) in a fair and equitable manner. We will not be tossed under the bus again. We are not in a concessionary situation any longer. We are back on the property (for the most part) and can finally now vote on our own futures. We can also vote on leadership and representation...
As sorry as you personally seem to be for the lot handed to us, it doesn't pay the bills. I agree that devisiveness will play right into the company's hands and then no one really wins.

If you really feel that you have superior knowledge and skill, then I suggest that you put yourself forward to the union and get involved.
2clippedwings adds: I completely agree. There is talent out on the line just waiting to be mined. Step up and do something.
Go to the meetings or as suggested in another post, represent yourself by putting questions on paper to be taken to the meeting.

That I absolutely agree with. Actually, I am a hair's breath away from reserve, so I do follow this topic closely. I would just prefer that this topic stay professional, as ruinous as it is. We aren't going to get out of this with emotion. We are dealing with accountants with no time for emotion or perceived "fallout".

Carol should hear the concerns of the reserves, as should all of the negotiators. The tone of the thread made me wonder though, what exactly is wanted from her. Thanks for answering my question.

Just curious what is she responsible for?

It is a no brainer, well at least for me, that the person responsible for negotiating a new contract have contact with the people she is representing.

Well, write her an email. I've always found her to be quite knowledgeable and easy to talk to. She'll write you back.
And yes, she will be at the MEC meeting in CLT but I think she will be in a closed session with the NC.

I don't think it is too much for us to request to see her in person. This lady is negotiating on our behalf and we don't even know who she is or what she is about. It would be nice to meet her and ask her questions. Yeah, we could email her with our questions and concerns but it's not the same. She has our job's future in her hands so we deserve to meet her face to face. She plays such an important role yet I don't know anyone who has met her. We don't want to antagonize her. We just want to see the face behind the curtain. I do hear she has a wealth of knowledge and I would very much like to hear what she has to say. That's all.

I've met her and she is very nice. She is hardly the ogre that some people make her out to be.
