The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (of the DOT) has released their 3rd quarter analysis of airline financial data. For those of you who aren't familiar with the BTS, they are the agency that the airlines report reams of data to on a monthly or quarterly basis (depending on the data). Perhaps their best known product is the consumer report of on-time performance, etc., for the airlines.

Note that there appears to be an misprint in the headings of table 1. All the other tables list data for the quarters starting with 3rd quarter 2002 and progressing thru 3rd quarter 2003 in order. Table 1 starts with 3rd quarter 2002, next is 4th quarter 2003, then 1st, 2nd, & 3rd quarters 2003. I believe that the column in table 1 titled "4th quarter 2003" should be "4th quarter 2002"
Take particular note of BTS' calculation of U's numbers - BTS calculates their own numbers from data submitted. This data in not taken from quarterly reports. The picture presented by the BTS is somewhat different from U's quarterly report.
