Good news and sad news to report.

Montevideo will get non-stops from Miami starting 17 December 2004, three days a week. The other four days it will be via EZE still. Ops with 767-300ER.

On a sadder note, last day of service to Belo Horizonte, Brazil is 30Sep04. A little surprised, because it was a cargo money maker.

I think what really killed the flight was that it had to operate as a tag on. AA couldn't operate to CNF non-stop from the US under the Brazil/US air treaty without moving flights to GIG and GRU. Very unfortunate indeed. Only the fourth LatAm destination AA has ever dropped (excluding Mexico). The other three were Cuzco (problems with the local airport), Porto Alegre (terrible yield), and Barranquilla (lost route authority).

Speaking of MIA expansion, Mikey, have you heard anything else for the winter schedule? I've heard mainline to SAN/PHX/MCI and Eagle to DAY/MEM. The winter schedule is starting to load, we should see the whole thing by late August. Also, I've been hearing Cozumel and Valencia, Venezuela will be added from MIA in 2005.

Also, in addition, I have heard that Asuncion will also become like Montevideo, with three weekly flights non-stop (TuThSa) and four weekly via GRU. I've been hearing a tentative start date of June 2005 in time for peak travel to Paraguay, but it's too early to tell.

I bet it's worth alot. MIA-EZE is heavily underserved, especially after UA dropped the route. It makes perfect sense, and goes in line with what I have heard (though I had been hearing June 2005 date). The flight would likely operate daily during peak travel seasons (June-August; December-April) and four times a week during other periods, just like AA's MIA-GRU daylight operates. Also, this flight requires no additional aircraft, since the plane would turn around from a redeye as opposed to sit all day and make no money.

I also heard AA is has more plans in the pipe for 757 and europe. May see some new trips from JFK, BOS or some where else up in that area. Perhaps Ireland may finally happen. That was in the works for BOS a few years back and then fell off to no where.

Yes, MIA-CZM was flown for a short time in 1999/2000, daily 727-200. Didn't do well, though the market to Cozumel is much stronger now than then. It is a very hot market lately, and has been attracting high yielding travelers. I think it would work a second time around. US Airways can fill a daily CLT-CZM, I don't see AA being unable to fill a daily MIA-CZM.

With regards to 757 flying to Europe, the MAN-BOS flight has done very well, and I've been told that a second Boston-Europe 757 route will be added next summer. I would venture to guess Birmingham, but apparently the list of destinations they are looking at is big, and not restricted to the UK (maybe Madrid? That would work well).

I've heard Ireland rumours, but they have all involved Miami. Boston-Ireland with a 757 would work out great, though. It's too bad the 757s can't fly MIA/ORD-Europe, because there is vast potential there. I know it would be a long flight for a narrowbody, but trans-Atlantic 757 flying has proved profitable.

Valencia should be a go in time for spring, hopefully. It would be a daily 737-800. It was originally set to start 1 November 2002, but the Venezuelan economic crisis at the time killed it.

Also, apparently, some big announcement regarding some mainline stations converting to Eagle next week.

No idea, but for a short time in 2002, CNF was flown as a tag-on to MIA-GIG instead of DFW/JFK/MIA-GRU.

Actually early on it was always a tag for MIA-GIG-CNF. I did many 30 hour layovers there. Then for a while it swiched to GRU. Last couple years been flown by JFK, IDF and FN crews. Thats when I lost track of it.
