MDW storm debacle

WT, here I'll chime in as well.  On Christmas day I was on a DL flight.  The F/A was smiling and happy and greeting eveyone.  One of my fellow passengers stated that it was a joy to see someone from Delta being so happy at work and what it a difference it made.  The FA stated that they missed being with their family and wasn't happy about working on Christmas but there were so many sick calls and so many folks that couldn't get to work because of bad weather that they were called in on their days off.  What made them so happy was that they were making 12 times their rate.

The sad thing is that Customers noticed that the only way to make a Delta F/A happy was to pay them 12 times their rate.
Just spoke to several Delta Flight Attendants and they said that is totally false and BS, they dont get paid that at all, they dont get any overtime pay for holidays or coming in to work on their off days to cover the holidays.

I might be wrong but I doubt any airline is paying their employees 12X their rate to work.

The reality is that in the free market system money is the currency that motivates people. If there are people that can be motivated to come to work when no one else can or will by being paid more, then I'm not sure why anyone should complain.

If they are happy, I doubt very seriously that even double pay would make someone happy who is not.

The reserve system has long existed for airline crew members. Anyone could have been called out if they are on reserve. Depending on the airline and job classification, if you aren't scheduled to work and don't want to, you probably do not have to come in regardless of the pay.

all that said, it is a given that the intense cold and extraordinarily bad weather is affecting many airline employees including those who genuinely do want to be able to go to work.

In this kind of weather, it is absolutely imperative to be safe and careful.
