March FA Attrition

For this to occur in April is only an indication of things to come in the summer. APFA should be screaming at the top of their lungs for a recall.

Active flight attendants should be hounding APFA at this point because your summer is going to be dreadful....
Actually, I think April is just a fluke. The base managers were catching hell from upper management before this month because their reserves and availability f/as were not flying their guarantees. Of course, if everyone is chasing the same 5-hour turn in Open Time, some people are not going to fly every day.

It's why I have my doubts about the company's claim that there is an overage of only 300-325 f/as. Availability is only awarded if you have line f/as "left over" after all lines, reserves, and vacation relief have been covered. In February, there were 752 domestic f/as on availability systemwide.

It' the weather. Something about 2 storms here in TX. The one last night was a hum-dinger. There is a storm in ORD as we speak. If there are storms in the summer then we willl have the same issues. If ther are no storms then things willl be fine. What's so hard to understand about all this?

And, if my sister were a man she would be my brother!

Gar, exactly which summer do you remember that there were no storms disrupting the schedule? That must have been before my time. B)

As a matter of fact, I was reading an article the other day that said El Nino (which somehow blocks hurricanes from the southern U.S.) is subsiding and La Nina (which draws hurricanes toward the southern U.S.) is growing. I wouldn't count on a storm-free summer.

Besides, no one said it was hard to understand. What they said is why is the company saying that there is an overage of f/as when they are having to go to the Open Time Coverage protocol that allows for reassigning of f/as if necessary to cover trips?

Calm down Jim. It was toung in cheek. The emphasis was that weather is what is causing the manning problem, not an over all shortage. i went through about 100 to 150 ODL's for DFW alone last night.

So let me get this straight... APFA should be screaming for a recall because AA is making its low time FA's work for their guarantees?

It's the end of the month -- wasn't there a lot of time burned up due to more than a couple weather events (one or two at DFW, the snow storms out east, etc) a couple weeks back?

If you don't see an indication of things to come from this........... you must be a scheduler. :p

Ahh, the old mature "eye for an eye".... spoken like a true scheduler (who might hold a tinge of jealousy?)....

Ahh yes, standing up for the person who started it regardless. Spoken like a true FA.

What on earth ever gave you the idea I was jealous of a FA?

Not standing up for anyone, just pointing out your "eye for an eye" mentality.

Your endless "slightly jaded" posts make your jealousy obvious... go back and reread some..Quite comical, actually. ;)

If you don't see the connection between adverse weather and manning, it's a good thing you were furloughed by the APFA.

What I see is a scheduler unable to man flights; while flight attendants are out on furlough.

Let me pass on some advice to you that I once received from a Holiday Inn front desk clerk:

"Hello? This is your wake up call!"

Well, I will once again point out to people that International Dallas has an overage. Trips are so scarce senior flight attendants sit around all night and day on call for trips like reserves in case ANYTHING pops up. Anything but KIN, of course.

I'm on reserve. The only time I will get a trip is if something goes wrong in another base at the last minute, a senior person doesn't want last minute make up at the base, or DFW goes to hell in a handbasket and uses all of their reserves.

I anticipate another month of trolling around town with my cell phone which doesn't ring unless it is one of my friends. Let's hope the good weather comes back so I can sit reserve by the pool all month.
