So i am in the sim in CLT visiting a pal and i get the lowdown or is it the down low on stupid management tricks. Seems the kids in purchasing ordered two EMB 170 sims on the cheap. Nope, the management kids didn't have engineers come in and make sure they were ordering the proper equipment. Oh no can't do that. What did they order? These knuckleheads ordered sims that were for European carriers. Doesn't sound like a big deal BUT the things are computer programmed for European carriers AND their power system are 230V!! What's worse, they didn't order manuals, software and the killer no warantee!! So company engineers are now stuck converting the power plant and getting the software in order. This is just stupid just incredibly stupid.

Sheesh...this in the same week as PSA's cancelation fest. I'm tempted to something sacarstic, but things like this are absurd enough by themselves.
My guess is that, as usual, no one will be held accountable. Now if a rank and file worker made a goof this expensive.....

after reading this I must wonder if this goofy outfit of an airline REALLY does have a purchasing department or may be they order the stuff thru WAL-MART.com!!!!!
just leave it up to USAIR to order the wrong stuff and hope it works ok!

What's that old saying?

If the deal sounds to good to be true, then it probably is
Why doesn't that apply to airfares Piney? Or will the consumer fare fantasyland come tumbling down into some psychotic Alice In Wonderland type nightmare whereby Southwest is the only airline left standing.

lets see here...if i conk out on midnite because i didn't have to do this shift in,say...12 years...and now i'm having trouble with being awake....i conk out in the crapper...i get fired???
whats this aa-hole get?
a promotion??
mr.glass...where is there a double standard??

How's this, U is now flying the E-170 from ABE to PHL, that is a flight upwards of 60 miles blocked for 55 minutes. Now you think they would fly to PIT and replace the MESA or whoever, 145 that cant carry the people trying to get there because of weight. Or maybe even to CLT or heaven forbid MCO and get back some of the pax that Southeast has taken from us. But no, lets take large aircraft and fly them low and slow, you know where they are really efficient.

 This is what US specializes in- the treetop airline! Dont feel like driving to work today? Fly a US Airways 737 there for $800! Dont feel like walking the driveway to your mailbox? Theres a 757 leaving hourly!

Wait, you want to go to a different time zone? Hmm. Let me check, we might have a 50 seat jet going there, but why you'd want to be in a plane for more than an hour and a half, or cross the Mississippi, is beyond US. :p

Someone wanted to know how U has 700 folks riding around positive space - this is it.

U has had jokers like this on the payroll since at least 1988. The same ones who decided to retain the min/max W&B system over PI's decimal system (even though min/max was unworkable on the 767's, and U,after training everybody on min/max, was forced to cancel it, and retrain everyone on the decimal system). The ones who dreamed up "put the airline to bed earlier, and wake it up later." High Ground. Business Select.

U keeps them well past proven incompetence, and when they get their resume all burnished up, and depart for more money elsewhere, U rewards them with PS forever.

Could we cut the PS list to those who either put in twenty years, OR had a track record of actual accomplisment? That ought to thin the list down considerably.

I know this is going to bring some derisive laughter, but perhaps they can't do that because they signed contracts with those people, and denying PS to them would expose them to liability.

Well, the Purchase might have been stupid, or it might have been a good deal,

Granted, the power issues and software will be a pain, but that is what we pay our engineers to work upon anyways, right...?

Chances are they picked these up real real real cheap from the yard sale going on over at the SwissAir affiliate that was responsible for EMB-170 training (they were to be the launch customer). When that program went under, I am sure these sims were a a bargain (fixer-upper)

Stupid would have been to ship pilots off to Zurich to train

Hehe... I knew exactly what you meant... even laughed...

But technically, UAIR honors thousands of contracts every day... A ticket is merely a contract... Read through the Terms of Transportation section "Conditions of Contract."
