On August 4, the Northwest MEC ratified an agreement with their management that should help Northwest with its crew shortage problems. Recall that NWA cancelled more than 525 flights the last weekend of July in which management blamed pilot absenteeism.

The deal gives pilots 150% pay for those hours over 80 hours a month. A NWA MEC spokesmen said that Northwest pilots gave over $4 billion during the course of their bankruptcy. In contrast, the US Airways pilot’s 6.8 billion worth of investments prompted Doug Parker’s June offer of a 25 percent premium for any block hour flown over 85 hours, and that was in exchange for major contract scheduling relief.

Oh we are gonna get our slowdowns and sickouts alright. This route system is so horrible and unreliable that many can't make it to work commuting. I had to wait for a half hour waiting for our crew to fly in on WN from PIT. TRY THAT AS A RESERVE! ! ! ! Total BS. Cut PIT back some more and there won't be anyone to work.

I guess you dont realize organized sickouts and slowdowns are illegal ask the APA and AMFA about them, cost them both dearly.

I cringed when I read the thread title.

If the pilots are going to do something, then it's got to be done with secrecy and precision. No phone calls, No e-mails, NOTHING that would give Company lawyers a chance to build a paper trail of any kind.

Things like throw away Cell phones, etc for communication. If you don't do it on the down low then you open yourself up to what 700UW was talking about.

Posting that kinda stuff here is NOT a good idea.

Great point. No secrecy is needed though. What we are doing is legal. Fly EXACTLY by the book and EXACTLY by our contract. No favors, SAP low. Fly safe!

Piney Bob has it figured out just right. The company has counted far too long on employees going the extra distance. Let them get what they pay for - no more, no less.

Unles I am mistaken and memory serves me correct.....isn't a pilot only permitted to fly 1000 hours in a calendar year? If so, even the incentives to FLY MORE will catch to them at NWA and going into the Holiday Months they will have even BIGGER Problems.

You are correct, so get your 1000 hours in before the Holidays and have a Merry Christmas at home for a month.

Most of the time block hours is not equal to pay hours. The NWA agreement concerns pay hours, which include lots of other things such as vacation, training, trip/duty credit, and dead-head.

Block hours for most airlines is as defined in the federal aviation regulations--movement under power to stopping at destination, or door closed to door open.

Pay is lots of other considerations.

That is part of the reason HP has always done well with this one. Most the people that work for HP live in Phoenix, most our commuters are from Las Vegas. Travelpro, what is the East's commuting policy? I know we can't be late on our commute, have to give ourselves 2 flights. If there is weather or MX we are covered as long as we stay by the 2 flight rule.

There is no policy except that you better show up on time.

You are comparing apple to oranges here, US pilots can change the work rules by getting a new contract, NWA is locked in.

Just as a reminder, we cannot allow a thread which actively promotes a job action, especially an illegal one.

You may keep the discussion going on workrules and terms of the settlement, but no public calls for a job action.

Thank you.

I am a University Profesor and not happy with my hours (80+ per week) and my salary (~ 30% lower than industry).
Why don't I just teach slower (cover less material) don't show up to class, or give no degree to the students (who paid tuition and expect an education)?
I just hope there are some pilots' kids in my class that pay and rely on my professional behavior just like I rely on flights being on time all over the world when I travel (~ 100,000 miles/year on *A).

Professor,
If you are not happy with your job, Why don't you just quit and get another one ?

That is the solution that airline employees hear all the time...
