An e-mail from a Bruce Gjerstad went out on Wednesday to about 50 departments announcing the service.

We are the black sheep of the Star Alliance. BMI, United, or Lufthansa is not going to give up a slot to clear the way for our patented "steaming pile of sh!t" service to Philly.
I think we are getting some slots from BMI in exchange for codeshare flights on our metall within States ......

I'm sure you're right-- for some reason I have it in my head that I saw the cover of an old timetable (circa '97) when I was traveling years ago, which boasted something like "US flies more European flights across the atlantic than any other carrier" or something like that. I could just be sniffing glue. :eye:

Yeah U MUST definitely have been smokin or sniffin something. US has always been and always WILL be behind every major carrier. "A day late and a dollar short " should be US tagline. There has got to be a curse on this airline- no matter WHO runs it they just cant get it right. The hope- my hope- is that somebody, MAJOR AIRLINE buys them and finally puts the name to rest. It truely is cursed- it's too bad because it has so much potential!

I can't imagine this route doing very well in Envoy. Why pay it when BA is just down the concourse?

We have it...what "they" choose to do with it is oh well.....I usually fly LH when going across the pond for business

no, it will be announced by mesa. they put out more service PR's than airways EVER has since the merger. i think usair lost the "new city" template, and they'll be sure to goof up the spelling.

i think they'll announce it with an A330, then have a 757 pull up to the gate claiming "its just as nice.. we've been flying these out west for years and the customers LOVE them".

yeah, they loved them compared to the 7dirty7-100s flyin around!

It will be a EMB145 with drop tanks and inflight refueling provided by the Air Force in a KC-135.

Flight will start on 3/30/08 PHL-LHR. Dont know the equipment type yet but will know early next week. Im told that PHL-LGW will be dropped but CLT-LGW will stay.

Maybe this...same start date 80.168.119.219/UserFiles/File/ACL%20EU-US%20BRIEFING%. Looks like "open sky" agreement.

Why go through all the trouble of modifying XRJ's with drop tanks and fuel probes, and then securing a contract with the USAF for refueling, for such a low yield A/C. The better "low cost solution" is simply use a A320, fly'em real high, and just "Coast it in" ala Air Transat.

It'd be a weight restricted flight for sure 😉...maybe they would to a 145XR with just ENVOY seating 😉

Since the service has been announed, this thread is now useless. Please continue the discussion HERE in the thread about new LHR service. Thanks.
