Lets Look At Making Additional Revenue

Thanks 700,

Seems like at least in the cases we do on-call maintenance, the company isn't too worried about the liability issue.

Here are some ideas:

On transcons and transtlantics pull out a few rows to give more legroom and put a table in the middle of each 3 seat row. Sell the tickets not for $300 or $2000 but rather $600-$800. On those flights sell first for $1000. See how many of the flights arent full. Exact costs may vary, Im guessing a bit but I think you get the idea. Give people that dont always demand the bottom dollar fare a reason to chose US. And dont charge them the bottom, but forget about the silly fares of yesterday too, they are history. Give them a product that has value compared to the competition. As it is now, looking on the thread about quality, JetBlue provides more quality than US at about half the price on a transcon. That wont work out for US in the longrun. Up the price and up the quality. To go with that start a rigorous training program for customer service related personnel and begin performance evaluations based on customer satisfaction.

None of this will happen of course. But since we are just making suggestions I thought I might as well suggest something that I think would have a real impact.

Ok I'll bite. Here are some ideas to increase US revenues:

1) Provide lap dances for 20 bucks or so in the USAirways Clubs with hot strippers. Come up with a catchy phrase like "Watch them take it off before you take off"

2) Stop painting the planes with the USAirways logo, instead do as NASCAR does and get some sponsers. Paint the planes with Budweiser, Miller Lite, Coca Cola, Pepsi, etc.

3) Put pay per view events on flights that people might want to see like ultimate fighting and porno.

4) Provide automobile services by the mechanics for travellers that leave their cars at the airport. "Going on a trip? We'll change your oil, rotate your tires, change the spark plugs, put on new brakes etc."

5) Open up the Clubs to all passengers just charge a cover charge at the door like a bar.

I have suggested these visionary revenue streams to management previously, but they have always rejected them.

Back on topic - many ideas have been mentioned on this forum to increase revenue. Fare simplification/rationalization and selling last minute F/C upgrades are two that come immediately to mind.
We are currently doing the last minute upgrades in several test cities. SEA/DEN/DFW/all of Florida. It was supposed to go systemwide soon according to our training guy but no word yet. (I also notice Real World has not returned on another thread to comment about immediate revenue generation streams when I asked him about this. )
On 1 CLT flight today we sold 6 Firstups at $50 each for $300 total. These were seats that would have been empty otherwise. Instead we got $300 for about 5 minutes worth of computer work. The numbers I've seen on this program in the test cities is amazing.
Again I ask, why isnt this systemwide NOW??? Every week that goes by is more money out the door!

I think it's not systemwide yet b/c management still cannot escape their long-held belief that it won't work...even with proof that it can. This had happened at other carriers such as DL when they began upgrades. It has worked there, though, from what I have seen.

FC upgrades make alot of sense because, in most cases, the passenger has purchased the ticket on another date and has already parted with the money to cover their trip. If $50 were added to the price at the date of purchase, the passenger would most likely switch to another carrier with a lower fare but by charging the upgrade after they've parted with their money, the impact on the passenger's wallet is not as high. Same dollar amount but different days. On flights that have any LF over 50%, a carrier should be able to fill up all of its FC seats with these upgrades.

Ive mentioned this before how about getting approval for putting video poker machines in all the seatbacks. They can access the machines by credit card.As bad as i do on the river boats US will be profitable overnight.

It's all about keeping them loose during the first hour of the flight and then tightening them up for the rest of the flight. Build that gambling confidence and then take all of the $$. That's the riverboat philosophy.
