Its the end of an era tonight. As I met that Dash-8 with the Allegheny Sticker on the side of the aircraft, I reminded the F/A and cockpit crew that tonight was their last night flying for Allegheny. Tomorrow it is Piedmont. SO LONG ALLEGHENY.

This makes me really sad, but I hope for all concerned that it will be a new beginning.

My grandmother flew her very first flights on Allegheny and I use to watch her board the plane with her little hat, gloves, matching jewlery with her little suit and heels, as I was waiving over the chain link fence as she walked up the stairs. She was so excited and proud. She would stop on the stairs and turn and wave. She inspired me to be a F/A, although saddly, she passed away before I was hired on.

Thank you, Grandma for all you faithful flying for Allegheny. I will see you someday soon. :)

What a sad day! I remember fondly working for Allegheny Commuter as a agent in HVN while in college, and then as FA with Allegheny in BWI. I meet some really great people and I still to this day keep in contact with them. I wish you the best with Piedmont.
Im now a FA with mainline US Airways working transatlantic flights. I always look back at how I started with Allegheny with pride. That day when I was 19 years old working the ramp at 4am in HVN having to learn to deice 4 RON aircraft will always be etched in my mind. That next day I was a pro! It was os much fun...and what diffrent time! Bless you all!

Remember that this is Allegheny commuter (Pennsylvania/Suburban Airlines) and not the Allegheny Airlines which became USAir.

Getting sentimental about Allegheny is like the people in Baltimore getting sentimental about old Memorial Stadium. They forget what a dump the place was.

Memories....thats what its all about. As a 19yr old all I wanted was a airline job. I was lucky enough to work the ticket counter/gate/ramp/operations in HVN with Allegheny/USAir Express. After that I went inflight with Allegheny based in ABE and then BWI before joining mainline US.
Those days in HVN as a agent were great. Made some great friends and had so much fun at work. It was a blast.Everyone knew everyone at UQ...all the agents knew all the pilots and FAs very well. It was just one big family as they cared about each other. Something you dont see that often anymore.
My first flight ever as a FA was being quick called to work the DH8 from BWI-ISP. I was so nervous and the guys in the flight deck knew it. They went out of their way to make me as comfortable as possible the next 4 days. Ill never forget them.
Im sorry if Im being a bit sentimental, but Allegheny was NEVER A DUMP to me. I was proud to have worked for them and was blessed to have worked with so many great and talented employees, many of whom,Im still friends with to this day.. As I said in a previous message...I wish all of you the best with EN. They are lucky to have you!

I agree, ALG was one of the better regionals around, and a good place to work driving turboprops. It did justice to the name it inherited from the original, and has served US far better than most realize for decades.

My time at ALG will always be remembered as some great flying, amoungst some great people. Everyone at UQ should be proud of one of the best safety records in the industy, and the professional attitude ALG was known for...

Either way, the name is gone for good. As we all know the reason for naming the
WO's afer AL, PI and PSA was to protect them from being used again by another company in the future. This came about after the Mohawk name was used a few years ago for a small Commuter Airline in upstate NY. From what I recall, it was started by on of Peach's sons or relatives. Over the years I have dealt with many of the ALG crews, and found most of them very easy to work with. Good luck to all.

Flew all day long yesterday and heard a lot of Allegheny call signs. The corporate merger is complete and the FAs have reached an agreement, but as far as the pilots go we have not come to a conclusion over the merger/acquisition issue. We still have two separate scheduling, dispatch, and maintenance departments.

Yep..call it what ever you wish. I recall a little old lady who once said on a Airways flight from CLT to PIT at the top of her lungs to the F/A...."They bought PSA, Piedmont..tried to take west coast ways and southern ways and change it all...but it"s just the same "PURE AGONY" , everytime I fly with these morans.

Isn't it funny that they decided to keep the Piedmont name alive, and let ALG go away. I'm sure that someone would have taken the PI name and used it in the future. As for ALG, I doubt it. It is all about reputation, and the PI name had a good one.

Although the insight of reputation does have some bearing, I doubt that was the reason Allegheny was merged into Piedmont. It may have been that the Piedmont pilot contract was more advantageous for mgmnt to handle than the  Allegheny's pilot contract. Just remember-business is business no matter what.
