The last B717 and Douglas commerical jet to roll off the Long Beach assembly lines is getting ready for delivery to AirTran.
Thanks for all the memories especially from LGB Douglas!

It is a great plane. Quiet, comfortable, efficient. Too bad Boeing couldn't stretch its legs a bit or come up with a 717 "family." That may have kept the plane around longer and it would have given the E-jets a real run for the money.

Nothing against the E-jets, but I would bet my house that the 717 will still be flying when they're 20+ years old. It's anybody's guess if the E190/195 will have anywhere near that kind of a lifespan.

Great job guys. You have a lot to be proud of.

Huh??
What will you miss? AirTran just took DELIVERY of their last 717. They're not RETIRING them!
They've got many years left in 'em....
I meant to say I will miss the Douglas Jet. I know that some of them are still in business.

Yes, they could have made it bigger, as big as the MD-80, and I think it would be a lot more popular! Would Boeing ever bring back the MD-80? It sold over 1000 planes, why did they retire it? I get sad to see so many airlines having soooooo much sucess with the MD-80, and phasing it out. I am very PISSED OF WITH SPIRIT AIRLINES. THE CHOICE FOR AIRBUS WAS NOT GOOD! If any one wants the MD-80 to stay in Spirits fleet, please contact them at www.spiritair.com TODAY! :) Have a nice day :)

Oh, and dl764, Every 717 that was ever made is in service with airlines currently. Only Olympic aviation phased it out.
HOW MANY PLANES DOES AIRTRAN HAVE? ONLE 717s too.

Air Tran has 737's too and I agree Spirit shouldn't of gone with Airbus's. Stick With THE SUPER 80!

There are about 7-8 717s sitting parked in Austrailia, I think they are owned by a leasing company, not sure but can find out. As for FL, they have close to 90 717s and I think about 24 737-700s, somewhere in that neighborhood. B)

Make that 3 717s sitting down under, per a Boeing Rep. Owned by Jetstar which is a spin off of Quantas.
