From Eric Liu... Unions lift  wages for non-union members by creating a higher prevailing wage. Even if you aren't a union member, your pay is influenced by the strength or  weakness of organized labor. The PRESENCE of unions set off a wage race to the top. The ABSENCE of unions sets off a wage race to the bottom

The Hotdog and Hamburger producers of America lobbied to have another holiday to increase sales at the end of the summer....

Or a management friendly administration decided to placate labor with a national holiday off, in hopes that labor would forget their dissatisfaction was about pay and working conditions.

Did anyone notice that labor day is not a paid holiday (accept for management), or has anyone noticed that if labor does work on labor day they don't get paid any premium pay?

Wrong, it was a Machinist in NY in the 1800s who came up with the concept and NY State enacted it.

And hopefully it will cease to be a US holiday and be replaced by 9/11 or something meaningful.

Google includes a number of origins, including Toronto Canada.  At any rate, Labor Day is to the Labor Movement what the ALPA magazine is to Pilots... without the hotdogs and hambergers.

Why so condesending.... Thre DOL acknowledges it may have been Peter McGuire of the  General Secretary of the carpenters and joiners union....

Founder of Labor Day

More than 100 years after the first Labor Day observance, there is still some doubt as to who first proposed the holiday for workers.
Some records show that Peter J. McGuire, general secretary of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners and a cofounder of the American Federation of Labor, was first in suggesting a day to honor those "who from rude nature have delved and carved all the grandeur we behold."

Did anyone go to a Labor Day event this Labor Day?
I had an IAM shop steward refuse to go to a labor day rally on "Labor Day" because it was a holiday.

With mindsets as this, one can see why labor is in the toilet.

No, but I have buy union, Jesus fish, yellow ribbon, Harley Davidson, duck dynasty, rainbow, coexist, stickers on my truck.

Does that count? ;)
