This is an old boxing maxim that applies to Airways right now.
Every news item, press release that announces new service and/or
increased sevice in our markets are shots to the body.Southwest
has been chipping away for a long time, but Jet Blue likes our markets
too,and will increase caribbean flying soon, with more to follow.
Jet Blue will start flying Emb 190's next year and I'm guessing we'll
suffer directly from that also.
ATA is expanding from IND,and is proposing trans-atlantic low cost
service soon, and air-tran is fiiling out markets in the south, midwest and
northeast.
Legacy carriers are coming from all directions,NWA just announced
new service to SYR and DAL adds flights from CVG almost weekly.
All designed to increase market share from the pie.
I don't think Airways has much more left to keep taking the body shots.
Even Rocky could not do it forever...
