The last time I was in town, I spent 3 days in/around Douglas Park. Was certainly paying attention, but still didn’t feel any fear or need to carry.

The point is that, yea! You may have gotten lucky and dodged a bullet ( pun intended!) but chances are not in your favor in the future..

Uh, maybe you felt safe around MDW because it sits in Mike Madigan's district (i.e. disproportionate police presence), and is also predominantly white. I used to hang out there as well when I was dating someone who lived in his district.

Go hang out two or three miles east, and you might change your mind about safety and needing a gun.
