I'm not to worried wether or not a Russian attack sub spent some time in the Gulf of Mexico. Simple reason I doubt the USA and Russia are going to come to blows. If we did we would have bigger things to worry about. What worries me more is the latest generation of SAM systems the Russians are fielding and the people they are selling or might sell to. It's much more likely that US forces are going to encounter those SAM systems than a Russian attack sub punching holes into tankers in the gulf.

Probably more to do with them finally getting their submarine force in good enough shape to make such an excursion far away home.
