Is there life after The Star Alliance for US?

You can basically infer from comments Kirby has made that staying in *A and working on having a closer relationship with *A airlines is the plan and that they would only look to switch alliances if OW or SkyTeam offer US a JV/ATI and *A refuses to consider something similar.

FWIW, US continues to strengthen its relationship with *A as much as possible and has announced new codeshares with JJ, SN, and TK, and an expanded codeshare with JK in just the past few months.

These are very good points. Certainly, there are more good reasons to stay in *A than leave. Virtually all of our code shares are with Star members except RJ (OW) and a switch would destroy all of those agreements...not good. Maybe in this case actions speak louder than words.
