EU Presses Member Governments to Renounce Their Air Treaties With the U.S.

BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) -- The European Union pressed member governments Tuesday to renounce their air treaties with the United States, apparently aiming to pressure them to accept a broader deal the union negotiated with Washington.

Just another shot of "Globalism" at the U.S......."Sovereignty" of the U.S. continues to erode...NAFTA, GATT, "OPEN SKIES AGREEMENTS", No one cares about these agreements & treaties until it affects them personally....Sad to say, but BOTH major political parties have bought into forming this country into just another "piece of the puzzle " instead of the country "by the people & for the people..

Ummmm.....I think you read this article in reverse.

The EU is asking its member states to renounce bilaterals, not the U.S.

And, WTF is wrong with the GATT? It has provided legitimacy for many of the U.S. trade protections that the USA enjoys.

Whats wrong with GATT ? Are you an American citizen ?? Would you rather have a group of "Globalists" make crucial decisions that concern you, or would you like to have "elected" representives from this country make them ?? {Trade protections ?????, What a Joke.} Read the article in reverse ?? Why do you think the E.U. feels they have ANYTHING to say about decisions this country makes ? Ummmm, Wake Up.

Maybe, you're not very clued into the international set, but the General Agreement for Tariffs and Trade was first inked back in 1947. The agreement explicitly requires parties to trade fairly and to provide for remedies for those parties who are adversely affected by unfair trade. This is not a new concept, nor one created by the Bill Gates, Warren Buffets, and Rupert Murdochs of the world.

There are no real "globalists" at work here. You're grossly confusing the World Bank/IMF with the GATT/WTO which are only very, very, very remotely connected only by dint of their status as IGOs.

As to trade protections, I encourage you to visit the United States International Trade Commission's web which includes a list of antidumping duty/countervailing (subsidy) orders against products from other countries. Over 350 orders currently exist with at least 30 of them issued in the past 18 months. No other country comes remotely close to the U.S. in the number of trade protection orders issued by the agencies. Canada is probably the closest with 40 or so. So, your trade protection argument is hollow at best and ignorant in the whole.

In any event it is the E.U. that has decreed that certain bilateral agreements between the member states and the United States are not consistent with E.U. law and regulations; that the bilaterals violate the rights of other member E.U. states in gaining access to the named bilateral participant.

Finally, its ironic that you posit the E.U. as the enemy - given their members states penchant for coddling their unions (especially France, Italy, and the Netherlands). Q.E.D.

ITRADE, Thanks for your "intellectual" lesson.. I am fully aware this "GATT" crapola is not anything new...........No globalists in GATT ??? That's almost laughable.....I did not state that the countries of which make up the E.U. are my enemies,, It's the political machine called Globalism that is the enemy...I'll ask again, Would you rather have a group of "Globalists" make crucial decisions for you, or ELECTED representives from this country make them ??? I do believe that you are educated beyond your own intelligence...

Again, what globalists are you talking about???? The GATT and WTO are about as fractionalized as you can get at this point, and have been for a long time. The mere fact that the Uruguay Round was agreed upon is a minor miracle.

If your notion of globalization is the simple entity known as the European Union, than you'd better get used the fact that multilateralism has become the raison d'être for much of the global trade today. Simple isolationism (i.e., the Smoot-Hawley Act) have been thankfully left in the dust.

In any event, the USTR is currently negotiating the multilateral/bilateral agreements with the E.U. As long as the E.U. member states concede that the E.U. itself represents the general interests of the E.U. member states as they pertain to aviation matters, then that is what USTR is going to negotiate with.

The USTR has conceded nothing, and does not appear ready to give away the candy store. Of course, you haven't even mentioned generally what "decisions" are being made, so its hard to tell what you're so worked up over.

Right now, these decisions are made by our elected representives, Seems if you fellas had your way, You would have no problem handing this power over to a "forgein entity" Haven't you fellas ever had any loved ones die defending this country and what it stands for ?????

What on earth are you talking about? Who is making decisions for the United States? What decisions are being made?

You mentioned, "How about Defense, Trade Policies, Our freedoms that we now enjoy in this country, just to name a few."

Again, what defense issues are being decided? If you look back, the United States specifically thumbed its nose at the United Nations on the issue of Iraq. The U.S. has also thumbed its nose at the U.N. and the "International Court of Justice" as it pertains to the death penalty and the execution of minors under 18.

What trade policies are being decided for us? We've still got the Byrd Amendment; we've still got subsidies to airlines and to the steel industry.

What foreign entities are dictating to the United States what to do? Au contrarie, the leaders of many nations are accusing the United States and Congress of acting quite unilaterally on any number of issues.

I haven't seen any ability of others reversing the United States on these issues. We've decided these issues and will continue to do so.

Itrade, Please take the time to read.. I stated that these decisions are now being made by our elected representives.. Trouble is, You fellas seem to be OK with handing this power over.

Maybe insp89 has been listening to Neil Bortz. In a local radio commercial Neil Bortz is heard saying that if John Kerry is elected as President the USA will have given up our rights to determine our own course of action in world events and Kerry would seek the UN's approval for anything the USA would want to do in the world.

I think that's what insp89 may be saying???

What’s wrong with that?

It's not as if our home grown boys are doing a great job.

I say let the entire planet decide our fate, our form of religion, our very destiny.

I would also say anything to piss off the Rush Limbaugh lover ditto head whackos of this country.

At least Michael Savage, as arrogant as he is, possesses intelligence.
