Thousands of St. Louis jobs on the chopping block

Thousands of jobs could be in jeopardy at St. Louis' second largest employer: Boeing.

The aerospace company announced the government's planned defense budget cutbacks will slow production of two locally-built planes and eliminate the jobs of the employees who make them. Michael Moran has helped build hundreds, if not thousands, of C-17 cargo planes.

...The bottom line is Boeing needs to get through to President Obama, Congress and Secretary Gates. If not, they stand to lose more than 5,000 jobs at Boeing in St. Louis, and 30,000 total local jobs, including suppliers.

Boeing executives are reaching out to anyone who will listen. They're trying to get Congress to put the planes back in the budget.

Well at least we know one place is hiring...$8B for ACORN while missile defense slashed $1.4B

Do you really want to go down this road? If you had bothered to do your homework you would have known that the Bush Administration had planed to end the program in FY2007. Where were you then? However Congress decided to appropriate money for additional C-17's anyway which has extended the production run. It's entirely possible that may happen again.

So your argument is something that never happened?

What's wrong there dapoes? Don't want to admit that if the the Bush Administration had their way the C-17 program would have ended in April 2008? Honestly, do you ever bother to look any of this stuff up? It's not that hard to find. Or do you hear something on talk radio or see it online and start a thread hear without thinking? Maybe you do research it and post anyway hoping that no one else will notice.

Looks to me like you maybe having a Pelosi moment.

Yet more deflection, this time from dapoes alter ego. Care to discuss the subject at hand? Were you aware of this little incontinent fact about GWB and the C-17? Were you also aware that the Obama administration is actually raising the defense budget 4% for FY2010 compared to FY2009?

Make all the excuses (apologies) you wish. It seems pretty par for the course.

Ignoring facts seems to be par for the course for you. Like what I pointed out about other Presidents having done the same things Obama has. Or the defense budget increasing in FY2010 compared to FY2009.

Care to answer one simple question?

Why didn't start a thread going after the Bush Administrations planned cancellation of the C-17? Not that I expect an honest answer. Although it would prove me right.

Typical lefty liberal response...Its all Bush's fault!!!

Considering I've had disagrements with those on the left and right on this board I guess it makes me more middle of the road.

I'm not blaming him for anything. I'm just pointing out the FACT that his administration tried to do what the Obama administration is proposing, end the C-17 program. Obviously your alter ego dapoes was either unaware of that fact or chose to ignore it.

Here's another FACT. The C-17 program is nearing the end of it's production run no matter what. Even if Congress decides to funnel more money into the program the USAF has room for only so many. And if Congress decides not to Boeing still has outstanding orders from other countries for it.

Err...............people like you still don't get it, do you ?

Even if the evil Bush administration planned to end the program, it doesn't give Nobama an excuse to end it..........................with the "TRILLIONS" of dollars he's spending !

What exactly don't I get southwind? Maybe you can explain it to me.

Here's what you and dapoes seem not to understand or just ignore. The FY2010 defense budget is an increase of 4% over the FY2009 defense budget. Since the Bush Administration tried to end the C-17 program in FY2009 all this moral indignation on your and dapoes part is a bit two faced. Here's another thing you and dapoes seem not to understand. Every defense program comes to an end, which is a FACT that you cannot get around. The C-17 program happens to be one of them.

Now here are some programs that are seeing an increase. UAV's, UH-1Y/AH-1Z, Longbow Apache, A-10 upgrades, V-22, UH-60 etc. And what do these have in common? They can directly help the troops in the field
