How Do They Live On These Wages (luv)

Currently, starting pay for Southwest flight attendants is about $14,000 and median pay is $24,600, which union officials contend is less than at other airlines.

Rank-and-file members were notified of the deal Friday. The airline's 7,400 flight attendants will vote electronically, with results expected in August.

Southwest spokeswoman Ginger Hardage said, "We believe that this is a good tentative agreement, and we're extremely hopeful that the (union) membership will feel the same way."

Analysts have suggested that rising labor costs could pose a problem for Southwest, which is the most heavily unionized major U.S. carrier; about 85 percent of its employees are represented by unions.

In the first three months of this year, spending on salaries and wages jumped 14 percent from a year ago, to $589 million. That's an even bigger jump than the airline expects in its fuel costs.

In a move to cut labor costs, the airline last month offered early-retirement incentives to nearly all its 34,000 employees. Friday was the deadline to apply.

It's simple. Their wages are only part of their total
compensation package which includes profit sharing.
Profit sharing is on the table for all US employees
as part of the current giveback packages being
presented to the unions. If the company meets their
revenue and cost targets (with the help of the
employees), total compensation for US employees
will rise accordingly.

Also, they have a large number of junior flight
attendants who are young enough to accept communal
living with other F/A's and crew members. US F/A's
are much more senior and many are either married
with children or are unwiling to accept communal
living. $14K per year is workable if you share expenses
with others.

Of course, profit sharing only pays out if there are profits...
That's why UAIR loves to offer it <_< .

It's an empty promise coming from a management that has no intention of running a successful company  .

Ladies and gentlemen, I think we just found the
biggest problem facing the company - negativity.
Profit sharing works, just ask WN employees.
Surem it will take some time before the company
shows a profit, but when it does, everyone will
benefit. We need to fire every one who breeds
negativity and then, just maybe we will have a
company that makes a profit.

if these flights are either full or say 90% full, why cant we say that we are making a profit? even it is hard for non revs to fly as long as the flights are hevy and I am referring to mainline and express and mid atlantic? what percent does it take to become profit? i'd say that we are making money now with full or more than 80% full.

Holy mackerel give him a cigar he figured it out. No concessions needed. Just put on a happy face

All together now...

Gray skies are gonna clear up,
Put on a happy face;
Brush off the clouds and cheer up,
Put on a happy face.
Take off the gloomy mask of tragedy,
It's not your style;
You'll look so good that you'll be glad
Ya' decide to smile!
Pick out a pleasant outlook,
Stick out that noble chin;
Wipe off that "full of doubt" look,
Slap on a happy grin!
And spread sunshine all over the place,
Just put on a happy face!
Put on a happy face
Put on a happy face
And if you're feeling cross and bitterish
Don't sit and whine
Think of banana split and licorice
And you'll feel fine
I knew a girl so glooming
She'd never laugh or sing
She wouldn't listen to me
Now she's a mean old thing
So spread sunshine all over the place
Just put on a happy face
So, put on a happy face

See my avatar look at that happy face

Because if you aren't selling them at a price higher than cost, then it doesn't matter what your load factor is.

Most Labor groups have profit sharing already(2002), FSA have had it since 1999 contract. I dont know anyone who has shared in the profits ?????? down:

And to think that LUV's mechanics (as of August this year) will make 32% more than a topped-out mechanic at US Airways.

"Feel the Luv"

It would take a LF (Load Factor) of say 175% to break even.......GoFares.......No Brainer.......Duh

Isaid that years ago. Get rid of the bad attitudes, the slackers, the sick time abusers
and get people that WANT to do the job. But management was waayyyyy too
spineless.

Start with corporate executives who lie, steal and cheat from the employees!

If you think corporate executives are the only ones who lie, steal and cheat you really are living with blinders on.
