If I fly a regional airline such as Comair or Mesa and buy my ticket through Delta or America West and fly the whole flight on Comair or Mesa or some other regional airline, what percentage of the ticket fare will the "main stream company" get of the fare even if I never fly on their aircraft. Just an approx. percentage, I know you can't be exact. Say a $200 ticket from Cincinnati to Austin on Comair aircraft, how much would Delta get of that ?

It depends on which regional carrier you are flying on.

Since Comair is owned by Delta...the money (generally) all goes in the same pot.

If you are flying a US flight on Mesa, the fare goes all to US. (sort of)

Mesa's contracts with the mainlines are fee by departure.....ie, it does not matter how many people are on the aircraft.

Mesa has it boiled down to how much does it cost to run an aircraft from point A to point B. Then they charge cost plus....make a profit on every flight.

Now obviously there is a little more to it then just cost plus, but that's the jist of it.

Lastly, there are some regionals that have revenue sharing on certain routes...I'm pretty sure Colgan still does this with USAirways.

This is where a percentage of the fare is broken up between the mainline and the regional.

Hope it helps.
